Hey guys, i see that everyone is making such a huge deal over the 2006 civic, like it's redifineing peoples lives and such, i wasn't old enough to care\drive the 2001 civic when it came out, did people make as big of deal out of our cars as they are about 2006s?

no people didnt make such a big deal most people complained they didnt like the design and so forth, but also the si has never been redesigned such extensively with such thought and planning , its cool, but its not ruling my life, but people just like to know things before its released to the public you know, it was a secret so people wanted to know what was behind the curtain so to speak

i think there's more hype about the 8th gen because more planning and design went into. They added more upscale features. The 7th gen is a repackaged 6th gen with a different shell. I would count the 7th gen as more of a restyle rather then a redesign.
There's also more marketing hype because there's a lot more competition in the compact market now. Back in 2001, nissan and mazda were going there financial restructuring and other troubles. In 2001, your only choice was civic or corolla. Now you got mazda, hyundai, kia, scion, nissan, cobalt.
Competition made honda give us a redesigned car with a redesigned engine and not a repackaged crap in a different shell

its a nice car and all (si only) but I still wouldn't get all excited. Definately like my car better and will be keeping it for a while.
thats why i bought a civic. in all honesty i had my head up the v-8 scenes *** i had never noticed them b4. but then my truck was eating too much gas so i looked for the cars with the best gas mileage with an internal combustion engine and reliability, insurance rates, and how readily available replacement parts are. if you didnt know the 7th gen is the cheapest car to own. outside of your loan payment you will go further per dollar than any other car.

I think its the fact that Honda lost what they had with the 7th gen. I mean, don't get me wrong, I think that Civics are STILL the best, its just that the 7th gen wasn't enough of an evolution. Along those lines mentioned earlier, it wasn't that great compared to some other cars that were redesigned. It was def. the best in 2001, and it held up well in 2002, but after that, the market started getting a lot tougher and Honda lost its momentum.
The 8th gen represents a way for Honda to redo that way ahead of the curve technique that had so many years ago.

Well as much as i like my 7thgen, it doesn't really look like a civic. That style is gone and it was very nice. Everyone knew it when they saw it. Now when they look at a 7thgen they're like hmm i wonder what car that was. a cop wrote down that mine was a nissan once. Same goes for the 8thgen.

I bet though, it will still be on the road long after his Crown Vic goes to the boneyard.

Plus I have a White Sedan with Black/grey interior and I understand they are relatively rare.
