Jamming into First

Throwing it into first gear from too quick of a roll I guess is a bad thing...because it just wont do it.
Whens it safe to do so?
Up to how many mph type of thing....
Noob Question I know...
Its just pissing me off

there is lockout on 1st gear, I think you have to be going under 5 MPH for it to unlock. And I would not advise trying to do that, you are just going to put stress on the sycro and tranny and kill your car. This lockout is designed to keep people from putting it first gear at to high of speeds. There are people on here that have put their cars into 2nd at high speeds and instantly blown their engines up from over revving.

I regularly downshift into first while braking.. As long as you're under 60km/h when shifting into first, you're ok. It's very hard to get downshifts into second right though, at high engine speeds.

Whatever. down shifting into 2nd is always easy. First is damn near impossible unless you are under 10mph or so. You are seriously asking to mess something up by shifting into first at 60km/h.

If you want to downshift to first easier try bliping the throttle to match the revs for first gear. Takes some practice but it works as long as you are slow enough for first of course. Check what speed you are at when you redline when accelerating and don't exceed that speed when doing the downshift when you try it. There's not much need to do it really unless you are autox-ing and you have a really slow corner to deal with. Otherwise it's just un-needed stress on the tranny.
