WHAT IS THE WORST CAR TO BUY???
i notice alot of people said hyundai and kia. not to take their side but these cars can't be so bad if they have the best warranty in the us. yea is a ploy to for you to buy the car but it also says alot about the confidence they have in it to keep running (well if they don't keep running there will be a lot of people SOL). imagine if the average civ ex came with with a 10yr/100k warranty it would prolly cost about $21,000. just some thoughts
Yes, Hyundai has come a long way.
I wouldn't say I'm ready to jump in to a Hyundai, but they're looking better and are presumably
built better than those contraptions from the late 80's and 90's.
I'd say Daewoo's are probably the worse to buy right now because of the conditions under which
the company has been operating....things like the CEO being a fugitive aren't going to inspire people
to buy Daewoos.

hyundai, specifically the accent. my dad actually mentioned it as a possible option when i was car-shopping before i got the civic. oh i'd rather shoot myself in the foot.
after that i second the kias and daewoos. how cheesy.
and i dislike almost all domestic cars, mustangs get on my nerves cause they're ***-ugly in my opinion and they're so much more hype than substance.
oh my gosh how about that feisty little road rat that ford used to make.... the festiva???? then there was the aspire....

hyundai has ALWAYS been copying the moveis of honda and toyota. it's horrible! they thought they got somehwere with the tiburon, but then the shopping cart spoiler became a norm on them and that signalled the end of what may have possibly been a porduct line savior.
Most of you guys are missing the mark. Ford is by far the worst! Just look at all the recalls over the last 2 years. Sure the korean brands get a lot of votes, but lack of hp does not = a crappy car. At one point in time Civic's only had 90 some horse power and they were never considered bad.
FORD is junk. That is why so many terms of endearment have been coined up "Focker Only Runs Downhill", "Fix Or Repair Daily"........ Most of which come from people that bought a Ford and had nothing but problems including me. I will never own a Ford product again, period.

I would agree with most of the sentiments here. Ford posted of 5.8 billion dollar losses last year and are discontinuing some of their vehicles. I would also agree with Daewoos being the worse. Kia and Hyundai are aight, but they still have not proved their reliability status yet.
Hondafan is partially right, lack of hp does not equal a crappy car. There was a time when Civics had much less than even 90hp...probably 60 or so.
Don't forget, 127hp STILL is not a lot of horsepower!
Honda Civics are known as great cars that are economical and very reliable.
That's why I bought one, and I'm glad I did!
When I'm looking for power I drive my 1990 FORD Mustang, which has
been trouble free for over 100,000 miles. The only time it has spent "in the shop"
has been while it's been getting performance parts.
Kori: You're right, the Festiva and Aspire are two of Fords more forgettable cars, but what
"hype" does the Mustang have that it lacks in substance?
C'mon people, why the hate....
I will admit, when I was a little younger, I did have "stronger" feelings towards rice-burners than I do now (obviously, since I'm now a Civic owner).

<< Most of which come from people that bought a Ford and had nothing but problems including me. I will never own a Ford product again, period. >>
That was me, I had an Escort that was a total POS, I swore I'd never own another Ford, then I happened to get a Focus for a week as a rental, that car completely changed my whole outlook.
<< Ford posted of 5.8 billion dollar losses last year and are discontinuing some of their vehicles >>
That's not a huge deal, remember the different models of Cars Ford sells just in the U.S. They introduced just as many new models as they are discontiuing. I'd be worried if they kept the exact same model line forever (i.e. Saturn)
<< what "hype" does the Mustang have that it lacks in substance? >>
Well it is very hyped. The F-Body has traditionally been a better performer at a lower price point. Yet the F-Body is being discontinued while the Mustang is arguably one of the if not the most successful cars in history.

C'mon raitchison, you're supposed to help a brother out!
You know, the main reason I chose the Civic over the Focus was fuel economy!
I wasn't too worried about the recalls from 2 years earlier. I figure any new model
introduction is going to have some problems. The Honda Odyssey went through the
same thing in 1999.
As far as the hype, hey, you said it's probably one of the most successful cars ever!
At least for the next year or two, it's also the SOLE surviving pony car!
The Mustang leads its class (a class named after itself), not because it is the the best performer, but because it has be best combination of performance, price, and quality.
The Civic is in a similar situation. It isn't the quickest car in it's class, as the Sentra is easily much faster.
It isn't the most fuel efficient, the Corolla gets 41mpg highway/Jetta TDI 49mpg! It isn't the quietest inside, the Corolla is much more "Lexus-like" in this regard.
BUT it has the best combination of performance, price, and quality in its class, and that is why it is successful.
Funny thing, being a die hard domestic man, I *rationalized* my Civic purchase by realizing that it is a domestically produced vehicle and that it is "sort of" the Mustang LX of imports in that it is a relatively good performer from the factory AND there is a large aftermarket for it, just like my 5.0. Amateur psychologists, diagnose away!
Bon apetit!
raitchison, How do I make the URL in my sig to be a real live link? Where'd my sig go?

id say the newer cavaliers...i had a 91 3.1 liter V6 and that engine was excellent. it didnt have the VTEC type technology, but it was a solid made car. other than the cav i would say anything made by hyandai (or however you spell that)

<< Sure the korean brands get a lot of votes, but lack of hp does not = a crappy car. >>
thats NOT why korean cars are considered crappy cars genious, they are considered crappy cars because they are cheaply made and need all kinds of repairs and are ready for the junk yard after 5 years
<< not to take their side but these cars can't be so bad if they have the best warranty in the us. >>
if theyre lucky, they wont put themselves out of business with the warranty.. but also remember that their 10/100 is only powertrain. many of them will likely be in the junkyard before the warranty is up
plus, they almost HAVE to have a warranty like that to sell the pieces of sh*t
<< I wouldn't say I'm ready to jump in to a Hyundai, but they're looking better and are presumably

thats what they would like you to think.. consider the price tag on them, and reconsider that statement

I tend to disagree. My whole family, including me, has owned Fords. The funny thing is they all BROKE!!! I had a Bronco II that had tranny problems, then I had a 92 mustang 4 cyl that had tranny problems and ignition problems, my mom had a taurus that had tranny problems, and my sister has a focus that has been recalled over 5 times already. In terms of the mustang, sure it is a good car and has been around a long time. But you do you not see many of the higher priced, faster mustangs out there. Most are people who want a sports car without having the horrible gas milage and high horsepower. Mustangs will usually get out performed by firebirds, camaros and the like at races. Last drag i went to, the only mustangs that won were the older ones with big blocks in them.
KIA!
A cow-orker of mine was all enthus.. about the Kia she bough. Saying how much money she saved over a Hodna/Toyota (you know, like in those commercials?). Well, fast-forward a couple of months after she's actually had it for awhile. Now, it's a "piece-of-crap-Kia".
Her biggest complaint?
Her: It shakes like crazy on the highway.
Me: It can't be *that * bad, how fast were you going?
Her: 100
Me: Miles?
Her: no km (that's 60 mph for you Americans).
Yeah, gotta love that Kia quality!

what "hype" does the Mustang have that it lacks in substance
people are always like ooooh a mustang. so they were pretty much america's first muscle car....but my ex, before he got a bmw last year, had owned 8...count em...EIGHT mustangs. he has no idea why he ever did it...that he should have stopped after the first one, but it was like he was waiting to end up with one that actually lived up to the mustang hype and did something special for him. he said he totalled two of them and the rest gave him problems and just didn't perform the way he wanted. mustangs are overplayed.

Mustangs were nowhere near America's first musclecar. They actually have their own class of car, named after them, called Pony car. Other pony cars are the Camaro/Firebird twins and the old Dodge Challengers and Plymouth Barracudas. While all of these have(had) plenty of muslce, they are more pony car than musclecars. Mustang's only "hype" is cheap performance that you can tailor to suit your needs, and there they deliver.
I don't know what kind of performance your "ex" expected from a Mustang, but I sure hope it wasn't BMW-like performance, as that is not what Mustangs are intended to produce. If you like great acceleration and "decent" handling for a great price, the Mustang if for you.
If you want an ultra-refined German engineered powertrain with nicely balanced chassis and great ride at a premium price, then a BMW is what you are looking for. I'm glad that he finally found it, and I hope that he learned enough lessons in the Mustangs that he doesn't end up totalling the Bimmer.
I got my cheap performance car already, my 1990 Mustang LX 5.0, and it performs exactly as I expected. Great power, fair handling, and mediocre brakes. As the "blank canvas" car it was designed to be since 1964, I will modify it to suit my needs.
I've also got the fairly comfortable, quiet, and economical daily driver that I want, my 2k1 Civic EX!
They both rule!
Oh yeah, as far as that Pinto, that whole "exploding when rearended" problem would make it a pretty bad car to have!
