Civic finishes 2nd in Edmunds test

Not bad for a 5 year old design.

If an old car finished 2nd... I wonder what Honda will whip out when they bring out the next car. When I say old, I mean a car with an engine/body that was designed more than 5 years ago.

Thats cool.

They say the headunit looks out of place on the civic..but..not if you have black/grey interior..it complements things very well...
Tan interior is gross...

everyone is keeping up with honda. when 2000 eval came up honda same in third or something. then the 03 came up and they were first. and now second. thats cool after 5 years of the same thing. so, in saying this, i can't wait till the 06 does some spanking.

I test drove the 3 extensively, and almost bought one. The biggest problem wasn't the car-it was the dealers-they are jerks.

They kept telling me that "this is the hottest car in America" and "if you don't buy it, someone else will in a few hours" They wouldn't even give me invoice, even though they would get a $600 holdback.

This kinda thing fuels their arrogance.

I was told the same thing at several Honda dealers when I bought my 01. I had to visit every dealer in Cleveland before I would find one that would even let me test drive the car. The dealer I ended up at was awesome, and ended up getting my money.

Funny, I experienced the exact same thing as you did this past June when I was shopping for a car for my wife. You guys want to laugh, even though the 3 is revered as being a better more refined car in every aspect when compared to the civic, my wife thought the engine was unrefined (it really did sound like a bunch of angry hornets) and she is not even a car enthusiast. Granted she was driving a 93 Maxima SE at the time, however, she loved the Honda civic but didn't care very much for the 3. Her exact words were the civic had a more solid and predictable road feel. Go figure, she also thought the 3's interior was a little on the gaudy side, but I think it is pretty nice myself. For each is own.

Personally, I think she was turned-off by the arrogance of the sales person we had. I mean, they weren't even willing to budge on the price and were treating us like beggers when we asked about a recent ad which appeared in our local newspaper. Their arrogance lost them a sale, and I am now on my 5th Honda. I am not biased nor a die-hard honda fanactic as my daily driver isn't even a Honda, but I feel that you can't go wrong with a civic if you want afforable, dependable transportation.

well, when i was buying mine it was the only one on the lot with the stuff i wanted. ex with all the options except the fog lights and it was a stick. the dealership knew they would sell it to someone if not me, but they still did not rape me. salesman let me learn to drive a stick all over again while i was test driving my car . lol. so i bought it cause they were decent to me. and i like it still.

I do believe the 06 civic will step up to the level of the mazda 3 and either be as good or better. i have been in a 3, and driven it. it is a much better car than our 7th gens all around but the 8th gens should be about as good. i have faith in honda.
Reasons 3 >7gc
greater horsepower
better gearbox options
better interior materials
better brakes (all disc)

but the civic still looks better, especially the trunk!

I bet every other manufacturer is waiting to see how the Civic will change. Everyone aims for the Civic and mentions it in their commercials when comparing cars in that segment.

probably. Although mazda raised the bar with the 3. its a very nice car for what it is! no doubt about that. 06 civic hopefully can hold up / beat it.
