For the most part, police officers generally do not like to write tickets. Speeding and other motor vehicle infractions are just that--infractions, that is they are not regarded as crimes, so it's not such a big deal if you play the situation right. I'm lucky if I write five a month at the maximum, and the people that get them from me get them because of their big mouths and lousy attitudes.
Man, we need more police like you! I'm as polite as possible and I still get them. However, they usually do lower the speed and price when you're polite. Big props to the nice cops!!

Thanks DHO......Yeah, I do guarantee you that if you're nice to the officer, there is a good chace that he/she will not even issue a summons, or in the event they do, they will lower your speed or issue an equipment violation which does not assess any points to your driving record. It's the people who rummage through their gloveboxes for an eternity to "find" their registration and insurance when they know it's not in the car, those who tell you they have a license when they don't, those who start yelling right away...they're the ones who go home with half the ticket book. I would say that 98% of the traffic stops that I make result in a simple "have a nice day." People do make mistakes, myself included and I have no problem giving people a break. The general rule of thumb is to treat the officer the way you want to be treated.
<< most cops around here are asssholes, and they have quotas so at the end of the month theyll pull you over and make something up just to give a ticket >>
I can see where you're coming from. In some departments, the superior officers ask the patrol officers to meet a cerain number of summonses for that month...I don't really agree with that, however. I also don't go for other cops "making stuff up" just to give a ticket to someone...it's a misdemeanor in New York to issue a false ticket, plus it's just plain wrong. Cops that do that make all of us look bad and do not belong on the job.
I've never gotten a ticket, just maybe a few warnings and some "just be careful's". I've really been getting tricked up by cops nowadays. What happened to all the Crown Vic's and Caprises? Lately, i've seen cops driving sports cars for some reason...
Heading down to OBX back in August, I was just cruising down the highway. I had to make up some time and my g/f looked around and didn't see any cops so I started speeding... a camaro comes right up on my tail and i'm thinking, "great, this guy thinks I wanna race or something" and when I look again into my rearview, camaro's got blue lights flashing! Pulled out with just a warning on that.
2 weeks ago, I'm up at William & Mary and this rice looking celica (altezzas, ugly aluminum wing, slammed, coffee can exhaust sound) parks by my car, and when the guy gets out, he's wearing green and tan with a stripe up the side (MD state police uniform)
Last one that messed me up was a car I saw with a S-15 style lip (sylvia lip for those who don't know), fogs, and hyperwhites coming up behind me. Car passes me and I see the silver emblem on the back (rectangular police interceptor badge). I talked to the cop at a 7-11...we were headed to the same place... and he tells me that state police is trying to crack down on street racing using hooked up imports !!
Made sense to me after a while, a lot of cops in early to mid 20's probably just using their own cars with free mods from the depts.

interesting.
I know that in Vancouver and the Suburbs, in BC. They've got a RCMP WRX, and a few other's. the latest being the WRX, all painted and stuff too. for the anti Street racing team. But here in Edmonton, they've only got things like Caprice's, Crown Vics, And I got pulled over by an undercover Lumina once. Also, just when I was driving home from BC last night. I saw a white Explorer, no markings whatsoever, rode my *** for awhile. Then passed. about 10 minutes later. I saw it with a red light slapped on top, and had someone pulled over.
I've seen a lot of sport ute's around Vancouver, Victoria, and throughout the drive between the coast and Edmonton. Explorer's and Tahoe's mostly, all painted up in RCMP or whatever they are. Must be for winter.

I know if you go to Vegas and are heading their at night (going south or east), there's always construction zones and of course the speed limit decreases but some people persist to speed anyway. You will find that car that sped passed you pulled over by a black SUV or two and they won't be the only car pulled over. The highway patrol down there is hard, but I see why. Who wants to get in a car accident when Vegas is dead in front of you all lit up at night like a big *** birthday cake? This was a while ago... otherwise, I only see the crown victorians. 1 white SUV. It's not as bad getting caught speeding in an older car cuz those are more suspicisious to cops. (Mostly criminals use them.)
i was driving on a 35 mph street and was driving under the speed limit and my rader detecter went off like crazy, so i sloweed down even more and noticed a cop from really far away, i passed him, and thought nothing f it, but he made a U and pulled me over. He told me that i was going 60 mph, i told him that my rader detector does not lie, and that i saw him far away, he didnt know what to say because he knew he was wrong and lying so he gave me a ticket for no insurance which i did have. his excuse is that i did not give it to him in time. What a bitch, cuz i am asian!
another time was when a cop pulled me over and asked what gang i am from, how umb is that?? i was wearing my frat letters and have a uci licence plate. college guys dont gang bang. racist white cops haha

cops around here are generally ok, but there are some jerks that need to be kicked off the force. our sherrif's are usually really cool. city police are ok for the most part. highway patrol are cool. its sad that a few jerks can ruin the image of the entire police force.
A lot of departments are going after speeders and reckless drivers with unmarked and slick top cars (markings only on the side and no rooftop lightbar). I'll occassionally drive an unmarked car, but it doesn't make much of a difference, I can still get people in a marked car doing things, but as I said, I don't really give tickets out. My department has all kinds of cars--in addition to the regular Crown Vics, we have marked and unmarked Explorers and Expeditions and a '00 unmarked Mustang assigned to a guy who writes at least 50 tickets a month.
As far as using imports for police cars, I haven't seen that by me, however, my own '01 Civic coupe has red lights, undercover hidden strobs and a siren....

i've only been yanked over once and the cop was cool about it...i was going 70 in a 50 zone....
he just asked where i was going and stuff...
as for your civic having a siren and lights and stuff that scares me..

Satin--as a side business I sell and install emergency equipment for other officers and departments. They usually like to see the equipment in use before they buy anything, so I use my car as a demo to show some stuff around. I'm allowed to have the equipment, but I don't chase after people that are speeding and stuff, as I am off duty...I've only used it once since I got my Civic in April and that was when someone gave me the middle finger for not going fast enough, attempted to hit my car, and then cut me off. Needless to say, I stopped him and we had a little "chat."
I hear ya Satin...I let everyone get away with just about everything while I'm on duty--speeding, equipment violations (I think everyone has the right to do whatever they want with their car so long as they aren't committing a crime in doing so), but I get real pissed the second someone starts being a moron. Plus, I've always liked flashing lights and stuff...
The best cop car I've seen was a bad a$$ Supra sheriff's car in South Florida. It was hooked up with graphics all over it and big D.A.R.E. emblems on the sides. It was a sweet looking ride. How'd that cop get so lucky?

I've only gotten pulled over twice for speeding and both times were in my hometown. Once the cops saw that I was from town they let me go. I have a feeling that out-of-towners would be more likely to get a ticket. What do you guys think?
Also, do you think you're more likely to get pulled over if your car is all decked out with mods? My car is completely stock and I wonder if that's why I never get pulled over.

DHO...the car you saw was part of that departments DARE program (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)...it is usually driven by an SRO (school resource officer) who volunteers for that detail--going to schools to talk to kids, appearing at community functions, etc. They do not normally answer radio calls and their programs and vehicles are not funded by taxpayer money--they are forfeiture funds, or the car is an impound, etc.
ASTR...I work in a town with a population of about 25000 people and I'm about 18 miles from New York City...it's a relatively small town and my department has 65 officers...while I do not like to write tickets, I normally will not write anyone from the town unless they really ask for it. As far as out of state registrations or drivers, I tend to give them a break as well. It's usually the state troopers that will play the resident/non-resident game.
