Below the Civic

As the Civic grows upmarket a hole is developing where the Civic once was. Honda is bringing out a vehicle below the Civic. It is supposed to be a Scion competitor. What will most likely be coming ashore will be the redesigned Fit wagon. There are also rumors that a redesigned Fit Aria/City sedan would be available here in the US.

If you're in the market for a new car:

Would you buy the new wagon?
Would you wait untill we get a sedan version?
Forget about it, there are better vehicles out there.
I'd stick with my Civic.

Could someone turn this into a pole?

Honda pegs U.S. sales goal for Scion fighter at 60,000; Fit to be positioned below new Civic
YUZO YAMAGUCHI | Automotive News
Posted Date: 8/15/05

TOKYO -- Honda Motor Co. wants to sell about 60,000 Fit economy cars a year in the United States.

"We've got to sell about that number," says Koichi Kondo, CEO of American Honda Motor Co. Inc., who revealed the unofficial sales goal. The Fit is scheduled to go on sale in the United States next spring or summer.

Kondo expects the Fit to appeal to a broad group of customers, including young people and families "who couldn't afford the Civic."

When it goes on sale this fall, the redesigned 2006 Honda Civic will be sportier and more powerful, leaving room for the Fit below it.

Honda has not released prices for the redesigned Civic. The 2005 model starts at $13,810, including shipping.

The Fit will compete with Toyota Motor Corp.'s successful Scion youth brand. At 60,000 a year, Fit sales would be on par with U.S. sales of Scion's two best sellers, the tC and xB. Through seven months of this year, Scion sold 31,964 xBs and 42,767 tCs.

The xB starts at $14,195, including shipping.

Honda's plant in Suzuka, Japan, assembled 249,818 Fits in 2004 for sale in Japan, Europe and Asia. The car is called the Jazz in Europe. The Fit would help Honda achieve its ambitious goal: 4.0 million sales worldwide in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2008. That's up from 3.4 million planned for this fiscal year.

Interesting. I'm not surprised that a lot of people would stick with a Civic, but I am surprised that NO ONE has chosen the wagon.

Thanks for adding the pole.

I'd rather have this car than the fit/jazz hatchback.

it's called honda city, that is the sedan version of fit/jazz. it's the same car. i think it would be better competing against the echo.

echo ... corolla ... camry
city ... civic ... accord

btw: notice the side mirrors on the door too? honda has their sideview mirrors on the door for a while now.

when the Civic breaks down, I most likely will get something that size if gas continues to go up and Civic becomes more upscale.... hopefully by then, they will have a small sedan.
would be a daily driver ofcourse.

Its a shame Honda is behind the time. I already saw that Nissan has started to sell the Micra and for 2007 the Cube will be here to take over the toaster market from Toyota. If I were in the market for a new Honda I would go for the Fit. I like the styling, but Im not. Im jumping ship to DSM and hopping aboard the EVO wagon

Honda needs to grow a sack amd come oput with a RWD turbo 4cyl car with a close ratio 5-6 spd manual and have it priced @ 25K or under. Only then will they be "on top" once more.

Duh. Of course thats where my money would be if I were in the market for said car. The point is that Honda is not only being stubborn and stuck in a time warp, but is also on the verge of being surpassed by Hyundai. I can tell you right now Ill take their next generation V6 6spd RWD Tiburon over this POS thats turning out to be the new Si.

The Sky, the Solstice, the SRT-4 the new Tiburon.. all heads above everything Honda has in the pipe in those price ranges. They need to get with it or move aside.

the way the words "susu" and "king" are put together mean something too funny...

anyway. I'd love to see a K-powered wagon. I checked the weights and found that in its current Japanese trim, the wagon is about 250-300 lbs lighter then the Civic, depending on the model. That is probably why Mugen used the Fit. It is a great car, and it is really light!
