Leave it to the Germans...

I was driving home last night down the 55 freeway in Costa Mesa when I see a mid 90's Mercedes S class in the lane next to me. I LOVE Mercedes, so I had to check out the exact model it was. Anyways, the badge on the back said "BRABUS 7.3". I wasn't sure what exactly that was, so I went home and checked it out. Turns out Brabus is a German tuner specializing in Mercedes, and their S class with the 7.3 liter V12 has 582 horsepower with 570 lb ft of torque, and the S class with that engine has a top speed of 195mph! Also checking out their website, they have quite a few other interesting cars available...

An SLK with a 450hp V8 that goes 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds, top speed is electronically limited at 205mph!
An M class with the 7.3 liter V12, 582hp, top speed is electronically limited at 160mph! It would be faster, but no one makes speed rated tires for the M class.
An E class sedan and station wagon with the 582 horsepower V12 and top speeds of around 200mph. I wouldn't mind having a station wagon that goes 200mph!
A C class sedan that goes 180mph with a 6 liter V8

In addition, all of the car's suspension, brakes, transmission are all upgraded to handle the extra power & weight, and the interiors are completely redone and made more luxurious. You can get anything from multimedia systems to refridgerators installed.

They also hold records with Guiness for the fastest 4 door sedan in the world, fastest station wagon in the world, and fastest off road vehicle in the world.

I WANT ONE!

No kidding. The handbuilt SLK that goes 205mph costs 343,548 deutche marks (However you spell that). I have no idea how much that converts to in American $, but I'm pretty sure I can't afford it

DETROIT -- DaimlerChrysler AG said on Friday that it has recalled
about 65,000 1998-99 Mercedes C-Class cars following five complaints
of exploding batteries, resulting in one injury from flying acid and
debris.

Yup, gotta love that German quality.

Ok, this probably isn't fair. German cars are definately more driver orientated, and despite all the problems, I'd probably driving one if I had a lot of $$$ lying around.
