What's the Problem w/the Ridgeline

Ridgeline

Damn wonder why this truck is not selling as good as they thought?

"The almost un-usable 4.5 ft bed?
The hard plastic and extremely quirky interior?
The lack of a V8?
The full-size pickup price for a less-than-full size pickup?

Or all of the above? Anbody want to share in some speculation?"
Cmattson

I agree with him.

Eh, the lack of a v8 shouldn't matter that much. The v6 in the Ridgeline is almost as powerful as most truck v8's.

I think the mainly front wheel drive thing pisses people off- it's four wheel but I believe the front two are always active. Half the fun of trucks is fishtailing sideways

I guess the car is a bit too refined for general truckers.

They want something tough, cheap and practical...not something like ridgeline.

i am going to get flamed but ford gm and dyler-chrysler toyota and nissan have perfect trucks so honda attempted to reinvent the wheel. if they just made a half silverado half f-150 and put a v-8 and honda badge on it it would hit their goal. but no one wants an ugly mdx.

Well...I'm from Texas. They sell more trucks here than any other state. I think it's b/c most guys w/ trucks want a chevy or ford. Toyota Tundras and Nissan Titans are slowly catching on here, but there you have two manufacturers who have been producing trucks for a long time and already had a foot in the truck market. Just my $.02

Well honestly, i wouldnt ever buy one just cause how they look. Honestly they look like crap. I would much rather buy a Tundra, Tacoma or Titan over it. If honda was going to realse a truck i think they should have come up with something a little more simalar to whats out on the market.

I'm from East TN.... show truck country! I see quite a few ridgelines on the roads out here... some pickups are bought for practical use around here, but most of them are more for show.

Its the fact that many people who use trucks for work, work on farms or some industrial trait. Many of these people work in unions and get discounts buying american made trucks. I love the ridgeline though.

It looks kinda like a Caddy EXT which in good in my opinion cuz the EXT is the only Escalade that I would own. The engine is powerful enough for about 75% of the ppl out there which would make you think would be enough to drive sales. Also it has a trunk which should appeal to the dumb ppl that buy trucks cuz they like them not cuz they use them 4 work. IMO u shouldn't b allowed to own a truck if ur not going to use it for haulin stuff other than *** cuz they use up so much god damn gas that it raises the price for everyone else & I'm sick and tired of seeing dumb girls that dont know how to drive big vehicles almost run other ppl off the road when they change lanes and they don't know how to park it either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whew!

I personally like the Ridgeline and wouldn't mind owning one. Infact I went to the dealer to check it out and found it to be really nice... Also ppl r loyal to their brand and some ppl like the some brand that their parents/grandparents owned like I'm a chevy family, ur a Ford family, we should b a Honda family but we're ignorant...

I see Ridgelines on the road every day here. But as for the sales figures being lower than expected, all truck/suv sales are down right now because of the high gas prices. If Honda keeps the Ridgeline in production and makes yearly changes based on consumer feedback like they usually do, the Ridgeline should eventually find its sustainable niche in the market. After all, the Honda Pilot sells very well and wins lots of awards even though when it came out people had many of the same complaints about it that they have about the Ridgeline.

I want to see a version of the Ridgeline with the gas-saving technology that's in the Accord hybrid. Maybe they will sell more if you can have a Honda truck that gets gas mileage like a car.

They won't get the hard core truck market people like mentioned. They'll get people looking for a truck with luxery but with car handling abilities. It is still fairly new, so don't expect sales to sky rocket. When people buy trucks, they expect to pay the extra fuel that cars consume. I would honestly get one if I could.

Its simple, I think everybody i have every watched the commercial, including myself have thought, a honda pick up, wtf?
Its like a prardaox, it confuses people, they do not know what to make of it and would not want to spend 30gs on one. I did'nt know about the front wheel drive thing, uhggg. I love honda, but they should stick to cars, even pilots and Crvs push it for me.

agreed. the ridgeline came out at a very bad time...just when gas prices are steadily rising.
i do not agree with the hybrid idea. the ridgeline is already very pricey, can you imagine how much it will cost with an integrated motor assist?

I believe it has to do with the v8 and the bed...
Look at it this way, Nissan titan came out and they stuck the damn biggest v8 they could in the damn thing. Guess what? it sells and it sells good
Also ridgeline looks like a girly truck
Titan, ford, Gm trucks looks manly and rugged.
Tundras own the girly part of the truck market which is a nitch

I wasn't thinking about and IMA--I was thinking about having 1/2 of the cylinders shut off when not needed (VCM™).

Most will probably punch you in the face before they'd waste spit.

Trucks have to look tough in Texas to sell, and the Ridgeline's front end isn't very macho-looking. Things like fuel economy, safety, efficiency, and refinement don't count for much as far as trucks go. Here, if it's a car, they ask "how much horsepower does it have? and how quick is is 0-60?" and if it's a truck they ask "how much horsepower does it have? and how much can it tow?"

Honda took their car ideas and tried to translate them into the truck market-lets make an economical, practical truck that meets all of the desires of the average(to Honda) consumer. What they produced was a truck with a small engine so it can't tow much that you have to rev to make power. It gets more MPG than the avalanche that it copied, but only 2 more, and the avalanche can tow a whole lot more and has a 5.3L V8. Stick to cars...

ps-FWD doesnt belong on ANY truck PERIOD

alot of people don't understand hondas 4wd system. it is front wheel drive in normal conditions. sensors continually monitor traction at each wheel and send the data to the computer. the ecu will instantly distribute torque to all 4 wheels to maintain traction. plus the ridgeline has electromagnetic clutches in the rear differential that can deliver up to 70% of engine power to the rear wheels!
