The earlier 13B was really good at being boosted, despite the fact that it made a hell of a lot of heat and you had to overhaul anything even remotely related to cooling. The Renesis, not so much for the boost.

That's pretty good for a 3 grand kit, and there is an even better one coming out but it's 5k MSRP from speed force racing.

The reason why nobody has been running higher boost yet is because the ECU is exceptionally hard to crack. It has nothing to do with the 13Brenesis vs the old 13B-REW. If anything the new Renesis makes power much more reliably and more power more easily considering the 13B-REW was making 255 bhp with sequential twin turbos running around 7 psi.

Preliminary turbo tests on the Mazda3 engine which only makes 160HP stock shows around 240-260HP at 7psi., all that from an inline 4 versus a rotary.

Best use for the Renesis engine Ever....

Let me clarify. Due to the vehicle monitoring systems via TCS/DSC on a dyno, the car only dynos between around 180 whp. Some argue the car is not making manufacturer claimed hp, while Mazda argues that the car senses abuse and pulls power on a dyno. The M3 and Porsche 911 also experiences similar dynamometer oddities. The dyno arguments are a totally different story, but in stock form the car will do 14.5 in the quarter and a 5.8 0-60.
That being said 240-300 whp (WHEEL HP) is quite a jump. At 265 whp, that's approximately 312 hp on moderate tuning and low boost at the crank (calculating a 15% drivetrain loss). You have to remember that the current gains on the different turbo setups are achieved with a low pressure small turbo and a greddy emanage with little to no fuel mapping/delivery tuning.
So to say that the car benefits little from FI is a misconception being that you don't totally understand all the supporting systems. Alot goes into a FI setup and you have to understand the big picture. Rotaries have always made big power from FI and the renesis is no different. The car gains on average 80-90 hp from only 7 pounds of boost. Just wait until proper tuning via a standalone EMS is made available, and you'll see gobs of power.
FYI Mazda is currently developing a Supercharged Top Mount Intercooled RX-8. Check Speed Mag and Rotary News for more info.
Still, that is not what this car is about. The S2K is not about drag racing either.
So enough about the RX-8...this thread is about the S2K. Let's try to stay on topic

Yay some ignorant person left this as rep (neutral, prolly supposed to be neg.) for my snippit about rotaries being good to boost:
real mature whoever did that. very very mature. grow up and get your facts straight. a rotary is EASY to boost and get power from since there is little engine work to be done. It makes alot of power with little size. Tuning may be harder cause most people don't have them, but there is almost nothing to mess up in the engine when you look at, and compare it with, a boosted piston engines.
nookiemonster can back me up: Are rotaries easy and safe to boost?
cliff notes: grow up buddy
rotaries dont like boost dumbshit

Rotaries are far easier to boost for many reasons the most obvious one being that there is no valve train, and only three moving parts. So you can't exactly bend a valve or throw a rod. Heat breaks down apex seals though, so that's one thing you have to watch for. Heat can mean having to rebuild the engine.
Higher levels of boost can be done for the same reasons, but you have to remember detonation will also blow apex seals. Tuning is key with these engines as well as proper cooling.
The good news is that apex seals are relatively cheap, but if you don't know how to pull a rotary apart then you could be spending alot in labor. Rotaries are actually easier to work on than piston engines. My father used to do it on the coffee table. They actually get put together much like a sandwich.

I'm aware of all the things you said, I even dropped you a priv. msg. a while back looking for a press release or article about the dyno inconsistancies you mentioned so I could update an RX8 page on Wikiepdia. I didn't say it was a poor engine, I simply said the old 13B seemed better at what it did insofar as boosting was concerned. There appears to be far too many hurdles so far in tuning the RX8, its been out long enough now that somebody should at least have a fully functional turbo kit out, complete w. fuel mapping and all that, but nobody does. I don't want to jack this thread and talk about the Renesis, but it came up. I think its a great NA engine, but boost doesn't appear to be it's strong suit.
As for the supercharged MS RX8, thats still in the works, and I've got money saying it will be a v. mild supercharger tune, as w. all Mazdaspeed vehicles of late, that and the fact they don't want to be liable for what happens to a rotary when it makes too much heat.

did an informative about the benefits of rotaries. my teached drives an M3 and after that wishes she got an RX8 instead but she already got the M3 and said it was too late. lol.
thanks tho.
anyway
back to S2000.

Oh I understand where you're coming from and I wasn't implying that you suggested it was a bad engine...I'm just letting you know the FI situation from my standpoint....EMS is the main reason I haven't gone boosted yet. I've been ready to throw money down on several turbo kits and nobody has impressed me yet. I'm very excited to see what speed force racing has to offer as well as HKS though.
As for the supercharged 8, I'm sure it's nothing a few new pullies couldn't take care of

Why should he be banned? Just because he gave us his opinion (ignorant though it is), doesn't mean he should be banned.

the point of this thread was someone wanted to know interesting facts about the S2000. so far you've done nothing but ruin it.
