Problems with a Mazda 3
I was on a Mazda website in Toronto and came across this thread:

It's pretty funny.

It's pretty funny.
don't go bashing on Mazdas just yet -
From what I read, it just looks like the common case of "stupid dealership" or in a more general case "People that have jobs they don't know how to do"
I've had my share of bad mechanics. I come in tell them what's wrong and suggest to them what it is before they check it out themselves. And then when they're done I ask them what they've found and how they intend of fixing it, before they start operating on my cay. About half the time, the car comes out of the garage and the problem's still there. This includes my local dealership and repair shops. I won't let them have the satisfaction of ripping me off twice and now I know which place to go to for what.
Leave dealerships to simple tasks like oil changes or tire rotations unless ou trust them

sucks for ford. whats with all the problems with them anyway? Just because ford owns them doesn't mean mazda and volvo are run like ford. If the company is doing well, ford takes a hands off approach to them. Ford relation with mazda is mostly for sharing R&D and sharing parts to reduce production costs. They don't influence how the company is run as a whole. If the company is doing horrible, they'll clean up management like how they brought jag back.
Subaru is owned by GM, but i'm sure everyone on here still wants a STI. To not like a company just because another company that makes crap products owns it, is dumb reasoning. You should not like a company only if that specific company makes crap products.
Most first year model cars have problems. If i was a mazda fanboy, i can make the argument that civics are crap because the 01-02 civic came with crap trannies.

um yeah, ok, crap tranny that gets fixed asap by real honda techinicians. cause its under warranty. this guy couldn't even enfore his own warranty. and ford uses mazda engines and mazda uses ford engines. they are one and the same. same with trannies. don't tell me its only for parts. i guess the engine is a big freakin part then huh? btw jags suck. they break more than fords. and they are expensive to fix too. i know that mazda is a ford with a mazda symbol. if you don't oh well. youll be found dead on the road too. jags are lincolns with a little kitty on the front of them. same engines, same crap, just more expensive. go research

When Ford bought a controllable share of Jag, the reliability and build quality of Jag went up. The cost of repairs and maitenance are obviously higher than Honda's due to the fact that the car is more expensive. Its like how an oil change for a Ferrari Enzo cost $4000 and an emblem for my brother's MB CLK430 AMG package is $80 instead of $20 for an Accord emblem from Honda. More expensive cars will have more expensive parts and maitenance. Want another example? How bought how my uncles Lexus RX300 needed a part that cost 2x as much as the EXACT same part (same part number and everything) than the part at the local Toyota dealership. Soon you'll be telling everyone that Ferrari, Lexus, and Mercedes Benz sucks.
Its not Ford's fault that the guy has a shitty Mazda dealer in his area. Plenty of members on this board have had experiences with shitty honda dealers (example: http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...hlight=markham ). Are you going to blame Ford/GM/Hyundai/Saturn/Volvo/etc. for their shitty dealer experience?
If ford uses mazda engines, and mazda uses ford engines, wouldn't mazda be using mazda engines?

OK noob, i was cutting you slack because you are one. First of all, the mazda 3 doesn't use a ford engine. The mazda 3 uses MZR engine that mazda developed itself. They don't use ford engines. Ford sometimes uses mazda engine, they even use BMW engines for there Land Rover line.
http://www.automobilemag.com/reviews/0401_drivenmazda3/
There plenty of threads about about civics with similar problems and same dealership hardships on this forum.
http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/se...earchid=580011
Just search noob. Or ask anyone that has a 01-02 civic tranny. They can tell those trannies were crap and the 04-05 ones are way better in comparison.
The mazda 3 was rated one of the most reliable cars for 2004. It even scored higher then one of the toyotas on the list.
http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/08/pf/a...lity/index.htm
You don't have to like JAG cars, i think there ugly myself, but i used JAG as a company that was poorly run, until ford came in and made it competitive in its market segment again. Again a positive effect ford has done.
I'm saying your logic of branding mazda's as crap just because ford owns them is dumb. Would you say the same thing if Toyota owned mazda instead of Ford? Your bias against ford, thats why your quick to call mazda crap. I don't even like mazda that much, but i know that just because one car has problems doesn't mean the whole line is crap.
Anyways do your research before you start stating crap that isn't true.

whoa. i am not a noob. and yeah im a honda fanboy. and i don't like ford cause my gf had one and everything went wrong with it. literally. yes if mazda was using a ford engine and ford was using a mazda engine then mazda uses mazda engines. no argument. i would not say that mazda sucked cause toyota owned them. i would probably buy one if they did. cause thats japanese influence on a car company. better. and not just one car has problems. mazda has major tranny issues. so does ford. in there cars, not trucks. lets not get confused. cars, bad tranny, engine and other issues. my friend has a taurus. its an 01 with every option in it. my civic is an 01. my car trade in is 2x as much as the taurus. you tell me why. just an example. i'm not saying mazda sucks. im saying that i woud not own a mazda because it has ford parts in it. so yeah. if toyota bought mazda tommorow i would buy one in a couple of years. when the influence has changed the cars.

They recalled Accord, Oddessy, CL, and TL (2nd gen+) trannys because they blew at 30k miles. What about the civic's gear grinding problem? Would these warrant Honda's trannys to suck?

yes. but agree with me that the warranty covered it with no hassle. right? you own a tl. has your tranny blown, if it did wouldn't honda have it fixed asap instead of turning you away and saying no. i mean come on. thats why i bought a 5sp 01 coupe. cause i knew the 01 auto tranny had prob. bottom line if you know there will be a prob don't buy the car. to me if its a ford logo on it, its already a prob. hell, i would drive a hyundai instead of a ford. that says alot. and big point you just said. THEY recalled. HONDA recalled. not some guy found out on a bad day and then it happened. i know thats how recalls are done, but still. honda would not turn you away like this guy got turned away. i'm goin to bed. later. btw kind of a noob to the site, not to cars. thanx

Luckly, i haven't had to bring any car's i've owned for warranty repair. As i've heard too many horror stories about every manufactuer dealerships. Its not the manufactuer's thats the problems, its the dealers. Dealers are independtly owned and some are easier to deal with than others.
What i've been trying to say is, don't blame the manufactuer of the car for a problem with the dealership. Blame the dealership.
here's a nice thread showing that even Honda/Acura can have bad service departments...

Your going off topic, this isn't honda cars vs ford cars. Thats a different topic. Ford only owns 33% of mazda, thats not a high enough stake to completely run the company itself. Only reason ford even owns shares of mazda is because mazda over expended themselves in 1997 and ford was there to bail them out. If it wasn't for ford, there probably wouldn't be a mazda around.
If you personally had bad experience with mazda's then that justifies your opinion of mazda's. Just because ford owns shares in the company doesn't make every car they make just like a ford.

Okay, the engine in the Mazda's I believe is an MZR engine, made by Mazda for the Mazda, ford had nothing to do with that engine. Also almost 95% of all Mazda 3's are made in Japan and shipped over here by boat, if you would like I can take a picture of the sticker on my wifes car showing that it is 0% made in America and 95% made in Japan.
On the other hand my civic has gone through more problems than her 3 has ever seen. I have had trannies replaced, clutches pulled, I had my engine replaced even, her Mazda 3 with 60K on it??? Not one issue, and it still rides better, has more horsepower, and kick my civic butt in every aspect of quality, the only thing better about my honda then her car is that I get 42 mpg and she only gets 29-32 mpg.

If I remember correctly the 3 was suppose to be the next Ford Focus. If necessary some one correct me on this please.
It is great to have people that are enthusiast about Honda, Toyota, Mazda... (to name a few) that helps moral and bust excitement about our cars; but when that turns into blinding following a company, that makes us look immature.

Damn I have schooled you people on this time and time again. Ford owns 33% of Mazda's stock. This means they are a very large financial part of Mazda, and makes alot of its R&D available to Mazda, but they do not own or run Mazda at all. They do however, make all of Mazda's financial decisions. A big misconception is that the Mazda 3 is a Ford Focus in Mazda's chlothing, when it is actually quite the opposite. The Focus is a rebadged Mazda 3. Ford can't force Mazda to use it's technology, but they can take the liberty of using Mazda's.
The only instances in the current lineup where Mazda has used Ford engineering is on the Mazda 6 V6, and the B series pickup. The V6 is only available in the US market where a V6 is needed for "straight line power" and the pickup is the same story as well. The V6 is a Ford block, and the pickup is a Ford ranger.
My RX-8 is more Japanese than your civics. Manufactured in Hofu, Hiroshima, Japan. Origin of 100% of the parts are Japan. The engine is crafted by hand in Japan.
If you equate Mazda to Ford, then you better do the same for Aston Martin, Jaguar, Volvo, and Land Rover. You better equate Subaru to GM. These types of relationships are better for the industry because they make platform sharing more widely available. Expect an RX-8 based luxury sport coupe from Jaguar.
Ford has made it clear that Mazda is and always will remain Mazda. Ford does take advantage of the standpoint and borrow Mazda designs from time to time.
Your uneducated views are typical of a person not versed in business or world economy. Ford has known for a long time there is something lacking in their designs. So instead of spending millions upon millions in bettering their R&D, they simply buy out their foreign competition. They buy out a piece of each of competiting markets. Some European, some Japanese. Now they have access to their competitors designs as well as a cash flow. It's marketing and business people.
If it wasn't for Ford, Mazda would not be doing as well as they are now. Ford is probably the best thing that has ever happened to Mazda. Their financial backing is what brought back the rotary, the possibility of an RX-7, the award winning 6 and 3, the all new 5, the redesigned MX-5, the up and coming CX-7, and of course the Mazdaspeed line. That takes some serious financial backing, which Mazda (one of the smallest of Japanese manufacturers) simply did not have before big brother Ford came with the big wallet. Ford wants their investments to pay off, and they know that Mazda's customer base is alot different than theirs, thus they let Mazda be Mazda, and make their cut from the competition. SMART.
Next time make sure you understand what you're talking about before you go making assumptions and dimwitted remarks.

To my knowledge, I think this guy is correct, he read enough to know about the whole story.
Therefore stop fighting around, honda and ford fanboys.

So, who was the immature tool that gave me negative rep on my post? You didn't even leave your name...at least have the ***** to do that.
Negative rep on a post about world economics huh? Guess your third grade education makes it difficult for you to understand.

so the guy has an engine problem with his 3. only a couple other people said they had misfire problems. there are so many possible causes for a misfire that you can't just assume they all have the same issue. this guy has nothing on me and my car, and i haven't gone to get a sticker that says 'diamond bar honda sucks' or anything like that. he needs to stop being such a little bitch and call mazda of canada and explain the situation. it seems like he wants the problems to continue, if all he does is take it to the dealership that can't fix his car. i'm still looking into getting myself a mazda 3 next spring.
CN: guy likes to complain and hasn't done much about it.
