so i'm watching NASCAR.....
So I decided to try and watch nascar to see what the great appeal is.
They start the race, and maybe it's just me, but after watching the last 2 IRL races, those NASCAR stock cars just look slow in comparison. I mean I understand they are about 70mph slower than the IRL cars, but I still expected 160mph to look faster.
I guess the appeal is within the domestic pushrod fans?

I agree, I tried watching it before and your IQ has to be around 80 if that can keep you entertained.
I guess the only exciting thing that can happen is a crash and I think thats what the typical redneck mind wants to see.
Same goes for professional drag racing. I went to the race track a couple tims on street night and I had a great time seeing all types of cars run, we had cars running 10s to 17s..... it was nice to see the variety. One time my friend told me to go to one of them professional drag events where they race thsoe rail cars and that **** was boooooooring. Seeing the same exact cars running mid 7s all day long slowls your brain down and kills brain cells..... samethign with Nascar.

I went to the Pocono 500. its one of the, if not the absolute, fastest nascar track in the country. Sure its the same thing over and over but anyone who is a car enthusiast would enjoy the roar of a car doing over 190 mph flying by them only 10 feet away. see figure A.
Figure A.

and for my .02 i think nascar is fun because youve got cars that are 99.9999% identical on a simple track and the only thing to get you to the top is strategy and technique, not just gunning it like most think. maybe its cus i have a general love for all things automotive but especially as s2kman said the pushrod v8's

it actually is kinda annoying in a way. we here in the US are so 1/4 mile minded and the only reason I see that nascar is more popular than IRL is because of the fact that it's got the big three racing in it, and it's your good-ol-boy pushrod power. otherwise, nascar is boring. the cars are a lot slower than IRL, and after watching a few IRL races, watching a nascar race is like watching a bunch of whales race around a buoy in the middle of the ocean.

IRL and cart cars have tires twice as wide on a car that weighs half as much. NASCAR has tires that are half as wide on a car that weighs twice as much.
People can argue all day about how stupid nascar is, it just shows that they know nothing. It isn't just about cars going around in a circle. The whole sport is a science. Aerodynamics, motor building, suspension, etc... Even 1/2 pound of air pressure will change the spring rate by 50 lbs. It isn't easy handling a car at 170mph with cars 6" around you for 4 hrs when the inside cabin temperature can reach 130 degrees. Watch a race for a little bit. Those cars don't just make left hand turns with ease. They bounce all over the place and they are constantly correcting the wheel to keep the car in line.

TV sucks I only watch the last 5 laps, but going to the race is pretty tight, like diskreet said if you see a car blow by doing 190 MPH and side by side with 3 other cars around a turn, you gotta appreciate that as a car guy!

nascar is very boring to watch but fun to go there and experience it. kind of like drag raceing. it gtes boring to watch on tv but a ton of fun to watch in person and feel the action from the stands.

I actually went to a nascar truck race in kansas city and fell asleep in the stands. It was the most boring thing i have ever been to.The IRL race the next day was pretty cool though. The only racing that keeps me entertained is sprint car racing. 1200 lb cars on dirt with 800 horsepower, that **** is crazy. TV doesn't do it justice.

I haven't met 1 NASCAR fan since I moved here 5 years ago.
flame on.......
i could watch nascar for an hour before watching drifting for an hour actually i could watch everything involving racing wether its f1, motox, or even lawnmower racing before drifting. i repsect drifting and think its cool but even though i like it alot for some reason i just cant stand watching it for too long i dunno why.
