Hey, you guys ever feel like we got screwed buying a 7thgen? I mean i keep reading about how bolt-ons wont make decent gains and how many of us are considering swapping engines. Just curious to see what you guys think. hey, at least we arnt neon owners

I didnt buy the civic with the intention of "modding" it. but then I got in to autocross and found that a little tweaking of the suspension can go a long way... after you've learned to drive that is.

I pick up mine as a trade for my bike (04 600 rr) and i was into cars but nothing serious. now i am i am making some cash and looking to mod, i am realizing that the only way to make some good hp (in my opinion) is you swap for a k20a2 (rsx type-s i am lead to belive, correct me if i am wrong). plus i want something that will spank any ricer.

See, thats the problem. you started out with a 127Hp (EX) econo box.... its going to take quite a bit to make it Spank any ricer. Given that, I found new ways to use the car where HP doesnt mean nearly as much. such as autocross and Open track, where the driver is more important.

yeah, it would be nice where a win was more dependant on the driver, not so much hp. but looking at a enigne swap, i was quoted between 6-8 grand including install. hell, i could get a used car for that much, or pay my bills...

you can mod it now with internals out for it and turbo kits and edelbrocks nitros kit...u just really cant pass 12's and if ur lucky u can get there...swaps age good but its cheaper to trade it in and get the type s
hell no! i bought a civic because my f-150 was getting 13mpg. and after a year of driving it like i stole it i have had no problems. 25 bux gets me 380+ miles it only takes about 3-4 quarts of oil. it doesnt burn oil or have electrical problems. the suspension is a little frantic. but i would recomend a 7th gen to anyone. but its def not a car for cheap tuners. you really need a fund for a turbo/rsx/evo/wrx if you wanna be a racecar driver. but for 7-12k you really cant beat it for a reliable daily driver.

7-12? where di you guys get your cars? mine was 18k plys my bike as a deposit. i still owe around 13k on it. and before i get flamed, it was a rush buy and i am kicking myself for it. every now and then, i look to see what i can trade for it. i am hoping to an s2000 to fall into my lap...as well as jessica alba.

true, its growing on me now. but damn, saving money for a engine swap is as hard as convincing a stripper that its not your fault it curves to the left.

yes they can look nice so easily...but also at least they make parts for our cars...there are so many fast cars out there that have to have all custom because people dont care enough for them

the swap price is rediculous i researched it for the same price i can put in a turbo rims pistons cam +gears pulleys and a 10lb bottle...and i can beat it until u mod that engine...thats where the advantage is...but who has 6 k for the engine and another 10k for all the parts its a couple thousand like4-5 for the internals alone

yeah man, the set up you have is nice, i like how the interior looks with the neon. i am gonna try and not drop any cash on modding my car, aside from springs and front strunt bar, until i can get enough for a swap or turbo kit. i rather it look slow and be fast then look fast and have my gf give me a push

yeah...but eventually the price for a swap will go down the b18 went down to 2k....so in a few years when the demand is gone it will prob be like 3-4 whick is more reasonable

a turbo setup is more realistic then a swap, unless i come into a huge amount of money. as it stands, i might be able to have the turbo on by next season if i am able to save enought for it (i suck with large amonts of cash)

The only way anyone would be screwed is if they got a 7thgen with the intention of making it "fast" with the stock engine.7thgens are attractive cars with good gas mileage. If you want speed go get something else like I did.

i was looking at an a old school 240 with a sr20 swap or a 95+ talon tsi. i could do a 240 with the swap for less then what my car is worth. even now a 95 240 is going for around 10k.
I've had my em2 ever since it first came out...Everything runs fine and have had no problems..This is my daily driver and I'm fine with it...If you wanted something faster should've gotten a car with a better aftermarket support..LOL....But if you need something faster then you should go out and buy a type s and a s2k like me..
just got it because it is the cheapest for the price and with some exterior mod the car looks much higher in class than it really is.
With the price of a EX what else on the market can we get? Mazda 3 wasn't out in 2002 and everything else was either crap or too expensive for the price.

i bought my car for 12700 brand new last year. at the time, i needed a new car, and my parents were only willing to co-sign for a brand new car (they wanted a warranty so i wouldn't be coming to them for money if i had probs, i was 18 at the time). anyways, overall, i love the mpg, and with some money into suspension, i can at least have some fun with it, till its time to sell. but exactly once month before i bought the civic i test drove an 02 rsx-s with a dealer asking price of 16900, and only 18k miles on it with a certified used warranty on it. i wish i bought that, it would give me some more speed, and it could hold the road just as well as my civic will.

when i was looking at cars, i had a chance at a 03 type-s for $530 a month with my bike as a deposit. which really didnt strike me as much as a deal. now i think i kinda fcuked myself. as for buying an s2000, its tough finding a job that pays enough for an s2000 at 22.
Let's talk about the EX (canada SI) because most of people here got EX.
Even at the present, for the price of the EX (canada SI) we have a descent car.
mazda3: a bigger challenger, but mazda is not as reputable as honda/toyota/nissan
Focus sedan: similar price and hp, can't take mod more than civic do
Neon (SX 2.0?): similar price and hp, can't take mod more than civic do
Sentra: similar price and hp,can't take mod more than civic do, undesirable exterior
Corolla: similar hp, more expensive, can't take mod more than civic do, undesirable exterior
Scion: unavailable in canada
I can see why civic is the best seller for 7 years straight in Canada, because for the price, few people would take any american cars. And they have little choice in the import.
Don't feel that you get screwed from getting 7thgen, we really paid for what we got. And don't even try to compare with the SRT4, again, we didn't pay to get a car of that class.
A civic, in reality can only compare with the regular Neon or a regular focus, and I am dare to claim civic is better than them in many aspects. AGAIN, WE PAID FOR WHAT WE GOT.

I love my civic its turbo and i made it look bad ***. At all the gas stations no one believes me its a civic all the old people are like thats a civic? A HONDA? and i am like yeah even with the turbo it gets great gas mileage and now it hauls some ***. I bought it because it was cheap
I will say that lately i have been debating if i was smart in buying the civic over the scion. I like it but i did not do my reseach about teh d17. i miss the old days with the 2000 si and the real vtec engines that you can feel. just my opinion though but i love my car. O well i am stuck with it.
