I put 87 in only on trips home or far away. Then 93 for racing and daily use. So I get a ratio of 3:1. using lower octane gas 3 times as much as 93. I don't think it matters what octane you use, but I do know that 93 and some octane booster keeps your injectors and other stuff real clean.

all octanes are required to add detergents to help keep your engine clean and tidy... use 87 or ur wasting $$$... the only time you need higher octane in a Civic is when you're running NOS or forced induction... in this case, use 93 or higher

Don't need any higher than 87 unless you want to prevent detonation from something like forced induction or higher compression. Anything that makes a hotter bang.
you will be fine mixing octanes... doesn't hurt at all. If you wanna be sure or whatever though, wait till your low gas light comes on, then fill up. This way most of the 93 will be outa your tank

<< 91 octane chevron in my car, all the time....... I get 34mpg on 87, and 38mpg on 91
Same here. I put in Mobil 89 octance and got 27.5, and with 87 octance I am getting between 22-24.
Higher octane will keep the engine cleaner, run better in the winter, and give you more milage...when I had my Prelude I found a place where the higher octane is only $0.06 more than regular instead of $0.10...but seeing as how it the gas pirce sucks here in Canada, I only go with the cheap stuff....
<< Using higher octane gas, especially on a car like ours where it doesn't matter, over time will burn out your cat. Only use 87- save money and your cat! >>
thats bs, who told you that?
<< Higher octane will keep the engine cleaner, run better in the winter, and give you more milage... >>
A higher octane burns NO cleaner than 87. That's why gas companies are required to add DETERGENTS to the gas to keep it clean. It really has nothing to do with the other two things, either....
LISTEN UP, the ONLY thing higher octane is required for is high compression ratios. After all, IF they helped out with gas mileage, keeping the engine clean, and running better, why would Honda recommend 87? I'm sure Honda would recommend anything/everything to keep the engines running smoothly so they're not coming in and getting work done under warranty. Unless you are running N20 or FI, put 87 into your Civic. In my opinion, if you're using higher, your just wasting your $$$
Even IF you strongly believe higher octanes give you better gas mileage, you're opinion, I got nothing against ya, just make sure the 1-2 MPG better is really worth the extra $.10 a gallon
Think I'm talking outa my ? Fine, you're entitled to that opinion as well, but before you think that, check out THIS SITE then get back to me... Keep in mind, that is a GOVERNMENT operated SITE If that site isn't reputable, I have no clue what is
i get on average 4mpg more on 91 octane, which works out to an extra 40miles on a 10 gallon refill, or a little over 1 gallon of gas.
So instead of getting 340mi/tank I get 380mi/tank (for this example, let say a tankfull=10 gallons)
87 Octane: $1.40/gallon... so $1.40/34 miles, or about $0.041 per mile
91 Octane: $1.50/gallon... so $1.50/38 miles, or about $0.039 per mile
using the "per mile" figures above, if 91 octane is giving me 40 miles more, then I'm saving about $1.56 a fillup in mileage

I think flaming is stupid and pointless, so I'm gonna end it here, I was just trying to offer my opinion, though yes I was ignorant about it, sorry... i know everyone has their preference and opinion... Bold was erased, didnt meant to dictate or anything.. sorry if I pissed anyone off
yeah, i have an ex and i pick up 4mpg on 91. my car cruises at 70 for 60-120mi a day on the clogged california freeways, nice easy freeway miles, thats why i get 38mpg.... of course, when i get a little testosterone back and I floor it, 87 would probably be cost effective again

I have all my receipts from every tank of gas I have put into my vic. I write down the trip mileage on each receipt. I just might try the higher octane and see what happens.
