Now This is the mileage I want
sorry no pics or proof, you will just have to take my word for it. I keep track of my gas mileage every fill up, I take the number of miles driven since last fill up and divide it by the number of gallons pumped.
this morning when I filled up the average was 51.5 MPG
there has been one other time when my civic (EX, 05) got 55 MPG, I wish I knew what the circumstances were for that kind of mileage, because I would love to get that all the time.
I wasn't even driving it light or anything, I was actually reving it up pretty good getting on the highway and stuff.
Naturally, you don't have to believe me.

were you drafting? hehe. miscalibrated fuel pump from the gas station is usually the culprit for pumping too much or too little fuel into a tank. just check your gas milage next time, ifyou get a poor mpg with similar driving habits, you probably didnt pump enough gas into the tank which explains the high mpg. if you get a consistent high mpg, then congrats.

you sure you're not driving a hybrid..? i mean, the sedans look (almost) the same and all...
if you drive a coupe, this post is useless...

haha, good suggestions guys. I did do a fair amount of highway over that tank, but not much more than normal. I am positive it's not a hybrid. I was not drafting (actually studies have shown drafting really doesn't save you enough gas to make it worth it). The gas pumps here have the locks that you set when you are pumping and it pumps until it's full and auto shuts off without user intervention. I always just set the lock and let it pump itself until it auto shuts off. Meanwhile I am sitting at the ready with my pen and pad waiting to record the gallons pumped so I can do the division.
I can post the numbers if you want to check my math.
Like I said it managed 55 once before as well. I don't know why it's not consistent, just once in a while I guess. Normally it averages closer to 36 MPG, which is good, but 51 is better

I've gotten 50MPG when it was all highway and I stayed close behind other cars or most of the way. It's not unheard of, just really hard to do if you mix in any city or "non-draft" driving.

I do a lot of highway driving and usually average around 41.5mpg in my 2003 Ex Coupe M/T. I thought it was a fluke the first time, but it can't really be a fluke if it happens every time, now can it?
I'm calling BS. Its not that I don't believe you, but I think you've been duped. Something is definately up with either the pump you filled up with, or your odometer. This is much more likely than actually achieving this mileage.

Chances are at 50 or so MPG you were doing some highway driving (alot) with a tail wind. My wife and I drove to Tennessee from Louisiana and managed to average 40+ mpg in her lx sedan with luggage. On the way back down we averaged 30 - 35 mpg because we were driving against the wind. That's probably the best explination for your occurences.

I think there was a pump issue. Either 1. the pump gave you more gas than you thought or it showed (in which case you got some free gas), and yes this does happen, I used to go to this gas station all the time and I was getting around 40+ with my civic, then one day I only got like 35, I went in to buy some stuff and the owner was there. I talked to hime and he said his pumps where giving to much gas out and he's lost over 10k because of it. OR option 2. different pumps have different "shut off" points. It can vary with in the gas station it's self. The auto shut off is not a reilable point to measure by , it can vary by up to half a gallon, but that still puts you in the upper 40's which is still very good.
You guys could be right, maybe the pump is lying to me. I also find it tough to believe my that just feels like being really efficient on occasion (though it would be nice).
So I don't know what happened.

higher numbers than 40mpg are only likely with an HX or hybrid. I can't possibly see an ex getting more than low 40s with all highway. Most my auto has ever gotten was 38mpg at 65mph all highway miles. Manual would get a few higher, but not 55.
