Everybody thinks the thermostat makes a car run cooler.... The size of the RADIATOR makes your car run cool. The thermostat makes sure it warms up quickly and stays at a certain temperature for most efficiency. Civics run from maybe a quarter to half on the temp gauge. If the car gets hotter than that on a hot day, it's not the thermostat but the radiators inability to dump the extra heat load. Also, running an engine too cool is not good either. If you go turbo, etc, you need a bigger radiator to dump the heat since the thermostat will already be WIDE OPEN. So if you want to run cooler than stock, you'll need a cooler thermostat AND a bigger radiator.

Michalo - We need to meet up sometime. My car will be getting fixed this week......finally. Let me know. Maybe we could meet half way, since its a long drive in HOT weather. I dont want either of us to overheat in the 110 degree weather.
a thermostat does actually help, the slight change in temperature will change the input of sensors and and u will increase performance, but very slightly. i am also trying to find a lower degree thermostat, so if u find one let me know too.
