They are great cars with fantastic build quality and reliability. Gas milage is pretty decent, I average about 22mpg and thats city driving. Stock, the boost doesnt kick in till about 3100rpm, so its easy to putter around town out of boost and save some gas. But when you are racing, contrary to popular believe, there is no turbo lag. If you launch in boost, the remaining gears will always been in the powerband and the turbo will be fully spooled.

And like your 5.0, you can expect great returns if you do decide to mod it. A full turbo back exhaust and ECU reflash will net you 55-60hp to the wheels for roughly $1200-1400. Throw on and up-pipe in addition to the TBE and you can see your turbo fully spooled by 2700 or maybe a tad bit lower. So for $1500+\- you are going to be making around 300hp (230ish awhp) with great reliability and delivery.

I'm 21 with a clean driving record and insurance is about $180/m on a WRX, compared to the $200 my parents were paying for my civic.
I like what you said...you made me think about the WRX..Ima have to test drive one to see what your talking about

And I dont know what exactly you are looking for inside a car..

Mine has a 6 disc in dash CD player, AC control and a clock, what more do you need? An ATM and a naked midget jumping around the dash?

Well, that's a good start. lol

Like I said the WRX is a good car, just costly IF it does break down, even though I would consider it just as reilable as a Honda, Hondas are cheap to fix. WRX is certianly more fun to drive.

Really though, go with Supra's

But a supra pushing 18-20psi is going to be eating a shitload of gas under boost.

I would too, but he said he was trying to get away from his gas guzzling 5.0, swapping it out for a car that would probably eat more gas wouldnt be the best idea. Filling that tank up on a minimum of 93 octane every 4 days wouldnt be fun.

True, but I'm guessing he has a cam, 4.10 rear end and a couple of other things, very close set up that I have on my F-150 and I get about 11 MPG, so going into a Supra that gets about 19-23MPG would be a plus, going from my civic that gots 32 to that truck hurt though, good thing I have a 40 gallon tank. lol But you right, if he want's MPG, he should go with a Civic HX or a VW TDI of sorts.

Do Supra's require 93 octane? I'm guessing 91 at most becasue that's the highest California can get in a normal gas station.

You can get 93 at certain stations, but you are right about most stations. 95% of them only have 91 octane here.

But I was just figuring that if you have a supra, its not going to remain stock. And pushing bigger numbers is going to require a higher octane to avoid knocking and detonation.

Well, that depends, if he is going to keep the 5.0, that would be his "toy" and the Supra would be a daily driver. Honestly though, if I had a Supra, it would be close to stock, maybe upgrade in the cooling system and a turbo timer, but striaght out of the box it is fast enough for me, at as my dialy driver. Now chances are I would buy some cheap car as my dialt driver and then try a push twice the air through that beast, but that's just me Plus around here I can buy 104 octane easily, Infact more stations here carry 93 octane than 91, woot for Ohio's high octane, boo for our high sulfur content that is causing acid rain and leaching into our water supply and slowly killing us.

Yes, I would be much more willing to spend the gas on a Supra than a Mustang, but that's just me. Plus teh Supra will make more hp with that gas the Mustang.

...saves gas, looks good and is fast.
Well, you have to choose one or the other. Fast cars don't save gas unless you're willing to pay for it. Looks wise, well that is subjective.

You could get the Lotus Elise with 23 mpg city / 27 mpg hwy
or like mentioned the Accord V6 Hybrid with 29 mpg city / 37 mpg hwy

but those aren't on the list. Obviously the fastest is the RX-8. It is RWD and has probably the best handling out of those vehicles stock. However, it wastes the most gas and oil. The Mazda community is known for its Zoom-zoom factor.

The WRX is great, it is also very tuner friendly because it has AWD instead of a FWD platform and comes stock with a turbo.

The RSX-S is more fuel efficient while it being a great 6-spd car. It has that excellent handling factor for a FWD car, but ultimately is limited to the fact that it is FWD.

The Civic is the most fuel efficient. Fast? The Civic is fast only if you want people on the other side of the world to hear you coming becuase revving the car into VTEC will make it really noisy... But hey, with gas prices the way they are, I only need $26 to fill a full tank and I can get 330+ miles on it.

Looks wise, out of the bunch I'd choose the RX-8.

RX-8 Got a really bad rep when they first came out because Mazda claimed they had 280 hp (I think it was 280), but when they where devlivered to people and dyno tested, thye where only putting down around 220hp, so this means they where only making about 260hp at the crank. There was a class action law suite filed agianst Mazda and they had to offer owners either a buy back at purchase price or 2 grand. I'm not sure of the hp nimbers, I could be a little off, but you get the jist, they ended up having less power than Mazda claimed.

I don't know about the RX-8, but the RX-7's that I have driven, if you where just kind of puting aorund town, and all of the sudden wanted to get on it, forget it. Those cars had to be super high RPMs to go anywhere fast. Completely torqueless IMO. Now if you where in high RPMs, that thing wold move. But you just couldn't stomp on it and go. They are more of a track car where you can keep the car revving high all the time.

Yes there is such thing as a type-r although, where i live they are pretty uncommon. There are ways to check to see if it is a real type R or not. One being the color. there were specific colors to it i know there was black, white and yellow. and i am not sure what others. Now keep in mind this car isnt excatly fuel efficient either, but i would venture to say much better than your mustang. ok back to finding out if it is a real ITR, well the lip kit and spoiler. they're specific to the car but beware can be added aftermarket. I THINK that the interior was all suede, but not real sure, i also think it was lacking some things? Another way to see if it is a real type R would be to look at teh engine code on the block. I think the code is b18c5, but that might be the non usdm itr. but yes type R is nice, but the GSR will beat it in a straight line

anyway sorry for rambling, just wanted to try and help so no one tried to make you think it was a real itr when it wasnt. look for pics online for real itr pics to understand some of the things i was saying. also get the vin of the car and find out if it is an ITR.
