car topic --> prom!!!

okie dokie, my high school's prom is in one month (june 11th). in terms of transportation, i dont wanna do the usual limo/partybus or whatever. now being one of those guys that dont mind driving everywhere, i was thinking of renting a car (having parents sign for it, of course :P). my friend and i are prolly going together with our dates, so we are trying to get two of the same cars. we had in mind:

Mercedes-Benz SL500
Mercedes-Benz CL500
BMW M5 (AAHAHAHHA, ill have fun getting them to rent us one of those)
BMW M3
Infiniti G35
Acura RL

this list is from most desired to "eh, its aite." now i talked to another friend whose bro-in-law has got some connections. although he prolly cant help with the actually renting, he toldus to go to dealerships directly and ask them to loan us one on their used lots, or one from their rental fleet (if available).

now, first, is this even possible? also, how should i approach this? have it so my father is going to rent it with no presumed action of letting me drive, or just up-front, tell them we are trying to do this for prom and pray that they are "down, and hip, and cool wit it" to have our parents sign for it?

thoughts/ideas?

thanks!!!

umm. most places wont rent to you if you are under 25, insurance liabilities or some such bullshit. so i would definitely get the 'rents to do the renting for you.

You'll never get a dealer to loan you a car for prom. Forget it, don't even bother. You may look like an upstanding kid, but like every other event, its the idiots that everyone remembers. The dipshit who wads his dads Porsche around a tree because he was drunk afterwards. At best, get your dad to rent whatever they rent from the upscale car rental place without you even present when he goes. Just send him to get it.

IMO, you're parents would be making a mistake renting one of these cars for you. Especially anything that's RWD. RWD and power are a dangerous combination in a young, inexperienced driver. All too often I've seen poor choices made when such a car is put into the hands of an inexperienced driver. I even made such a mistake when I was younger. I'm not trying to preach or be an ***, but it's just something that happens far too often, and every day.

Ill be the first to suggest a car- cl500 . but if they rent it and you wreck it insurance most likely wont cover that.

right... the purpose of having a limo so that you crazy kids don't do stupid things after the prom...
don't even thinking about renting those luxury cars, they are hard to get by unless you are super rich (well, except in vegas)

man, i knew this kind of stuff would come up. i realize that what im planning to do is potentially dangerous, but i realize that.

yeah, you guys are probably gonna keep going on and saying that high schoolers cannot be trusted just because not everyone gets to drive a $90,000 car without any parental supervision. i know. i know people who have gotten into serious trouble. two schoolmates have even died because of their S2000s and E36 M3, but with all of this and realizing that i would throw at my parents a world of trouble, risk of bankruptcy in not having the insurance company cover the damages in case of an accident, a loss of my own car and right to drive, and the simple fear of going fast in something i KNOW i cannot control if i were to do something stupid, in addition to realizing that i AM an inexperienced driver, i could never bring myself to doing anything to endanger my life, my date's life, others on the streets, as well as devastate my parents and ruin my life.

and dont even bring alcohol into this; im not what you would consider the average, experimental high schooler craving for illegal acts of drinking and driving and abuse of drugs. yeah, this may sound like a load of bull, but in actuality, i really, truly care about myself and would never risk my health and safety for a thrill, no matter how tempting.

this probably didnt do anything in swaying your thoughts about this, but i am simply asking, do dealerships have a rental fleet or loan out their used inventory for one day?

I would never allow any high school student to drive a car over $20,000. Thats nuts. I have seen how most high school students drive and I understand why any company will avoid all people under 25 in a case of expensive cars!

Plus one scratch on the car and you are screwed.

I am biased though, I hated prom, and the whole idea of it. I drove my civic and it was still on of the nicest cars there. Someone got to drive a mercedes, but no one cared, since no one cares. Few people got limos, but no one cares so once again waste of money. I hated high school, I hated prom, I hated graduation, I hated being treated like a 12 year old everywhere with school since thats how they treat everyone. Most of all I hate the immature idiots in the school who need supervision and act 12 years old. I just didnt like high school one bit.

Thank god. I like you so much more now. I am actually stuck looking for a 1 bedroom apartment for when I move out next year since everyone I know going to that school drinks, smokes, or does drugs and I hate all of them for it. My girlfriend doesnt, but my rents wont pay for everything if i would live with her now since my sis got pregnant in school and they think ill do the same to my gf by looking at her wrong. and all my good friends who have self control and self respect go eslewhere.

I wouldn't even bother with that. Why are you trying to impress other people? Just be safe and have a good time like you should.

you can do anything with the right amount of money.... but that just goes to show you that you need to study hard and graduate so you can get a good job and one day, you can rent whatever car you want to!
Don't rush the expensive **** like that... it will come... one day when u can buy instead of rent. ;-)

^^^ LOL! I wanted to do one of those rental things for my junior prom last year but my dad wouldnt do it so I took the civic which got more praise then any other cars there. This year we are going in a Limo which is fun because you can go with more people, and party harder, and I dont drink either but being able to boss some dude around for 8 hours and make him take you places while you mess around with your buddys and your date(s). Just take a damn limo, its cheaper, and you get to concentrate on your date and having a good time instead of driving.

^^ nicely said wrap it tight, and heres a little tip, concentrate on gettin laid then get sloshed, imo ppl will get sloppy when there drunk and do it, then they cant remember if they remembered to wrap it.

jk

just rent a limo. im pretty sure being the youngin you are you've probly never even driven a 300hp car especially a rwd. the handling is totaly different. unless you have experience with these cars before I wouldn't recommend renting 'em.

I had to push the vic to prom too. My girl at the time lived an hour away so we couldn't ride in thhe limo with everyone elese. And once my dad figured out how fast the s2000 he rented me was, that was out the window.

i have driven both the cl500 and the sl500 and if u goin to have this for the prom i would suggest the sl500 do to the fact that u can drop the top unless the cl500 is a cabriolet.

i highly doubt ur goin to get anyone to rent u one of those cars from ur list

I just had my prom a few weeks ago....I took my grandpa's RL. Real sweet ride, it was fully loaded with navigation and everything. I went with my date, my best friend, and his date. We had a great time, no alcohol, no parties...we made our own fun.

I learned this after leaving my prom that nite...you only have one for the rest of your life, so dont be stupid and just have the best time you can have.

And cars dont matter that much...one kid took a ferarri and another took a 350z, they burnt more rubber that night than I've ever seen before (the tires, not condoms..lol) ...two days after the prom, nobody cared what everyone drove...so it really doesnt matter, just concentrate on having a good time

i had my mom rent me a lincoln navigator from hertz they are really cheap and their cars are really brand new mine had 3k miles on it. they also have jaguars and stuff check it out. regarding those cars you would have to go to an exotic place and pay arround 300+ to rent one of those cars and u have to be 25 to rent btw so ur parents need to do the renting for you

ok everybody. thanks for knocking a little bit of sense into me. yeah, it was kinda stupid to want such high-end cars. but heres an update, if anybody else wants to help me out...

the idea is still in the air, but with a lil bit more, um, reality mixed into it haha.

my friend's dad's best friend owns a used car lot across from his kwik-e-mart, and is willing to loan us two cars from the lot. the options are:

2000 BMW 325 Sedan (auto)
1997 Audi A4 2.8 Quattro (5-speed)
2000 Acura TL (non Type-S, auto)
2002 Lexus LS430 (auto)
2000 Jaguar S-Type (auto)
2001 Mercedes-Benz SLK-230 (5-speed)
2004 VW Turbo Bug (AAHAHAH JK)

those are MY options from the lot (my friend took the 2000 BMW 328 Coupe 5-speed... grrr)

also, my cousin may be letting me borrow his 2002 Mercedes-Benz C230 Kompressor hatch. im leaning towards the hatch cause its kinda classy and sporty, but the '97 A4 5-Speed is a lil bit tempting.

anythoughts?

Yep, bad idea. My aunt loaned me her NSX for prom. By the end of the of the night I had tickets for (in one stop): wreckless driving, running a red light, 101 in a 55, and attempting to elude.
