Do you think I should do this?
My wife wants to get a new corolla S or LE. She has been trying to break her lease on her 2002 civic. Her dad and the sales agent had talked her into leasing for 48 months and now she wants a 4 door. Well breaking the lease and doing a smart buy on a new corolla is giving her an insane payment.
Yesterday we thought about trading in my Prizm, and I would take over the lease on her 2002 civic for the rest of the 15 month lease. She only has 21k miles on the car. It is a blue EX coupe. Much nicer than my car. I have 47k on my prizm, and I pay $135 a month. I have 3 years left on my loan. It is a 2001 and it is only worth around $5500. It is fully loaded, because it is the LSI model. Anyway, I owe around $4700 on the car still. If we trade my car, and pay off the loan we could use whatever money is left for the Down Payment on the Corolla, plus what ever money my wife was planning to put down to give her a better payment.
So do you think it is worth it for me to take the civic?? The reason she wants a 4 door is because she drives her nephews around a lot and it is hard to get them in and out of the car seats with a 2 door. If she doesnt get the corolla, she will get the Alti 2.5S.
Thanks...

We know the prizm isnt worth much. The dealer said $5000. Its a great car...but I would rather dump it now...because in a few years it will be worth nothing...and the civic has no miles on it....I can enjoy it for the next 15 months and then get a SCION XB
i say go for it. it seems as though it would work out to both your benifit.
you would get a better car in the civic, she gets the corolla she wants.
and your prism gets paid off.
the payments will be cheaper or around the same price as you are paying now so it wont hurt the pockets anymore or less.
I think if you can get it done the way you described i would do it.

Yeah I felt the same way about my 01 civic when I owned it. I am not sure what we are going to do now....I think we may just wait until her lease is up and then she can get a nother car....I really dont want to have to pay $100 more a month for a payment. Right now I pay $135 a month but I usually pay $150 or $160.....I like a lower payment....
Why not try to sell your Prism yourself, and takeover your wifes lease? If you sell your car indipendantly, than you can get more for it, to put into a new car for her... I would keep the car to the end of the term, aviod any posable penaltys, and save money to use as a nice down payment. As for your car... I'd try to sell it while saving up another deposit, for a car that will retain more of it's value
. Those Suzuki motors are reliable, but gave that car a bad rep. Why Chevy ever switched from Toyota I'll never figure out.....

What Suzuki motor? My car has a toyota motor. I am probably just going to keep the car. It runs great, and it is cheap on gas....My wifes civic she will keep till the end of her lease and then get a Corolla, an Altima or something else....Who knows what.
We want to buy a house in a year or so, so I think I can suffer driving my car, if it means I can buy a house....Thats what we really want...A Car is just a car.
