Wow even chrysler knew the neon was crap and dropped the name all together. I think its a smart move on there part. When your car is the number one car with the least resell value then its time to drop the name.
IF you click on the second link, you noticed there also making a coupe and sedan version, based on the same platform called rebel. The rebel is a more true replacement for the neon.
The average concept is more of a CRV, Rav4, matrix competitor. I assume they just added it with neon because it is going to use the same platform that the rebel will use.
Globalism bring some interesting bed fells together. Chryser is even making a Dodge version of the EVO.
"The Dodge Rebel is being designed by Chrysler and Mitsubishi engineers. While both are working together on a common platform, the final cars will be different in character. In North America and Europe, the Chrysler version will reportedly be used, even when sold under the Mitsubishi name. In Asia, the Middle East, and South America, the Mitsubishi version will reportedly be used, even when sold under the Dodge name. The Dodge and Mitsuibshi versions will have unique interiors and exteriors and different suspension tuning when sold in the same market.
The EVO will have a Dodge version, with extensive Chrysler involvement in engineering in the two door version. The four door will be primarily worked on by Mitsubishi engineers, though members of the Neon ACR team are helping them, thanks to their strong rally and SCCA success. (The Neon traces its pedigree back to the Shelby Dodges, partly through John Fernandez). Mitsubishi has been a strong rally car and their engineers are no slouches. We're not exactly sure, though, why Dodge and MMC have switched places on the Rebel - the Stratus/Sebring/Avenger coupes were pretty pure Mitsubishi. "

If they put AWD on the SRT verson then that would be a WRX killer, I think.
Obviously you guys didn't understand the title of the page on allpar, or just don't know how to read... it says, "The Dodge Caliber: Neon-replacement-based mini-SUV" meaning - the Dodge Caliber is a mini-SUV that is going to be based off of the Neon replacement, which obviously hasn't been named yet. The Caliber is NOT, I repeat NOT, a replacement for the Neon. Thank you, that is all.

I bet they'd drop a Hemi in it and AWD to say its the fastest car under the Viper that they've got...They dropped a Hemi into everything else and the marketing seems to work...

not really...the car is almost shorter than the current neon. learn to read. They say it's the neon replacement in that article yet if u look around there is another article that shows something different saying the caliber is a new vehicle and the neon replacement is still undecided. SRT-4 will still be around as anyone who has common knowlegde knows SRT-4 is a motor....Weird how they have 2 SRT-10's one a viper the other a Ram (back to your orginial post of making a civic to a cr-v idiot) and srt-8 and 6. Look up actual facts before u start knocking someone. That's why people come off as jerks because they aren't knowlegeable enough, yet start acting like they know what they are talking about. Why do u think there is so much flaming??

Get it??
The hemi isn't outdated at all and though the newer hemi's aren't what the old ones use to be doesn't mean they are outdated. The older hemi's were on vehicles that didnt have emission requirements or anything like that. With new laws, comes new technology...Do u have a clue as to what the hemi actually is and does?? I just don't see how u can make fun and talk about something that has a history of outperforming your car in "almost" every way. Wow a civc or S2000 looks better than a neon...it should, u are paying a more expensive price dumbass.

The hemi design uses a hemispherical head in the combustion chamber. This design provides better thermal efficiency. In other words it burns more efficiently, and has better swirl effect and airflow due to larger valves than that of a flat head combustion chamber. However, the design is an old design, and not good for emissions. As you said "with new laws comes new technology". ooooo, ok so what's the secret dodge did to improve emissions? The current hemi magnum uses TWO spark plugs per cylinder to ensure thorough combustion, rather than one. Yeah. Big technology jump there....
Now, your argument is that it outperforms "our" cars (or engines in this case) and that it's not outdated.
When in fact, it's the other way around. Compared to modern engines such as in hondas and toyotas, imports and other more modern engines use a design that is WAY more efficient than the hemi. It's called a Pent Roof combustion chamber. The pent roof combustion chamber also allows for FOUR valves per cyclinder. A Hemi can only have TWO. So better air flow and mixture is accomplished in a pent roof design over the hemi design. On top of that, because of the shape and size of the pent roof, it has less heat loss and more efficient burning than the hemi.
So. Cliff notes:
You have no idea WTF you are talking about. And the "hemi" at this point is nothing more than a marketing ploy.
