Difference in VW Jetta models
Anyone know the difference between vw models. I was looking at the last gen jetta tdi and a can't seem to know the difference between the gl and the gls. I know this car only has 90hp but their peaks are so low how fast are they off the line?
1000km per tank, gotta love that. I average 100km a day.

GL is the stripper model. Equate it to a DX. GLS has power stuff, CD, nicer seat fabric, etc.....
Its mechanically the same, they just add comfort items and raise the price.
They're not fast. Jettas are heavy pigs. The Diseasel does 0-60 in about 12 sec.

Heavy? Ennh... porky... yes... 3100 lbs for mine. But not "HEAVY" like a mustang or camaro. It's not THAT bad
It's hard to say exactly the differences between a GL and a GLS, since all of the parts are interchangeable. I do know the difference between a GLS and GLX, and it only has to do with the air conditioning controls.
With a diesel, you're looking at mad torque to get you moving, but if you try to drag race, you're ROASTED after about 150 feet. Zero top end. Just don't race, and enjoy your 40+ mpg. If you want to be unique, some tuner companies have their "racing TDIs" in the 15's in the 1/4.... which, coincidentally, is what i can easily run stock.

trivial info but...
the type of engine that pre-1998 Volkwagens came with, affected it's lug pattern.
V6 models came with 5x100
non V6 came with 4x100
1999+ models are all 5 lug
A guy with a Jetta I used to work with was, getting into tuner stuff and was asking me about rims, so i did some research and found out.

^^I thought it had a W8...
oops sorry for being off topic.
Diesel engines are great... They don't smell bad, or maybe becuase I'm used to better quality diesel then what we get here in the States... They're very strong off the line but they lose their power in the higher revs, which is why a lot of comapanies use turbo diesel engines.

A Phaeton isn't a driver's car, it's a passenger's car. I don't know who would buy one to drive, you'd look like a chauffeur.
Back on topic, the GLS gets you power accessories and alloy wheels, and some other little goodies. The GL is manual crank windows, a tape deck, power locks and that's about it. Congrats for looking at the diesel - it was the best MKIV Jetta in my opinion. Great on gas and tons of torque around town.

thanks for the reply and how did phaeton get on this, lol? I'm not a speed daemon, but how quick are these things off the line compared to an Si/Ex with 127hp? Head to head, how would this 2 cars match up from start to finish bone stock?
