My project plan- need major help, PLEASE!!!
Hey all, i drive a 2002, honda civic lx, black, 5-speed. i just bought it out, and the warrenty is over with, ok, so i diden't think i was gonna keep the car so i diden't mod it at all, now that i have it, i've planned a project out and here is what i wanna do
basically, i want a clean car, and i want to lay down about 430 whp, at least 400 for sure, now i don't know, if it will be cheaper or easier to build up the d17, currently i've planned a swap and cybernation stage 2, also, one thing i coulden't really figure out is, can you still have your basic bolt ons, IE headers, intake, when running a turbo?, dumb question i know, but i can't figure it out, it wou;d be nice if someone can help, and let me know what to do about my project, the total came to 35k, by the way, i added in about 4 grand for labor, but not sure if it is too much, or not enough, i plan on installing everything myself with friends, but the turbo and the k20a2 swap, lemme know what you guys think, and also, lemme know if you know places where i can find these parts for less, i'm hoping to complete this within 1 year. also let me know if i'm missing any essentials, the stage 2 kit comes with engine upgrades, so it's safe to run. thanks for all your help, can't wait to get started.

No, with turbo you dont have an intake or header. At least not a cold air intake that connects to the throttle body, it runs into the turbo. So it's not in the sense like AEM V2 or anything. You'll also need a turbo manifold which would take place of the header. They have some good stickys on everthing else. Go w/ the swap and turbo over building the d17. Make sure you research a lot before you try to start installing anything. Good luck.
edit: id prob also advise against using the projectors and the HID, some people like them, but Im not a big fan.

damn... seems like you have a lot of cash to blow... why not just go with a faster car? with all that $$$ you could get an evo or sti and have factory turbo with awd.

Hey I'm getting my EM2 swapped right now at hybrid racing in Mandeville, Louisiana. They specialize in K-series, and have everything you need for the swap in one place. check out the website www.hybrid-racing.com
if you want a good project car get some american muscle for 10 grand, dump the other 30 g's into that and youll have no worries whatsoever! plus youll get alot more puntang with a classic car than a civic lol
but being that i know you wont do that, id say with so many things to do leave it to a preofessional for all the engine and electrical because otherwise youll get behind on time and want to rush and not read up on things then youll F sumthin up

I was skim reading, but if you want to be in the 430 hp range you better think about forged internals with the boost you'll need to be running...........and RWD conversion while your at it, people I know that have EK's with that much power do it to show off their shops tuning ability's.....not to make a fun car to drive.....you will have so much traction issues to deal with if your not running slicks.........your taking a bigger bite than a civic can chew IMO.........spend way more on handling like frame mods and X braces etc.....and be happy with 250-300 hp tops......you will find that race cars are all about balence between weight/power/handling/grip.....you car if built as you said will not be a well balenced car, and balence is what makes a car great.............

wow, thanks for all the replies people, hmm, your right, i could get another car, but i don't need want to anymore, because i bought it out, and i wanna make it something uniqie, once again, i love the evo, and would have got it, but that will be in a few years, i can't get over mitsu shitty quality. another thing, it seems that cybernation claims 400 hp to the ground with their stage 2 turbo kit, as far as traction issues, it all depends on the person driving, i can spin my tires in the civic rightnow too. anyways, thanks for all the help everyone and keep them coming, i'm not sure, where to quite start, also, how much can i sell the d17 for? i really liked the comment about how it's still a civic, haha, that was a good one, but whatever floats your boat yo, by the way how much hp do u think the d17 can put out safely?, i remember the staford fabrications kit, putting down about 230. and mid 13 times. what if i upgrade with darton sleeves, they hold up to 1000 hp, and 40 psi, what do u guys think, oh by the way, i've found a k20a2 motor, with 12,000 on it, for 4k flat, good deal?, and also, how much is a type-s gauge cluster worth?
hurts2bstock- i have to agree with you on you comments, the stage 2 kit is rated at 370 whp, i think that should be enough in a litttle, civic, but if you think that is too much, then i think that i can get 300 out of just the d17, what do u think?, what internals would i have to upgrade and how much will it be costing, i was hoping i could get at leadt 345-350 though. that seems like a decent amount to go with, it's not like i will be racing this car, i don't condone street racing. but something that is more of my pride and joy, that i build myself, and like you said is well balanced and fun to drive, let me know if you can think of a better path to take. because, even though i am ready to spend that much money, i work hard for it too, and don't exactly want to blow it away, if i'm not going to get a product that is well balanced and complete, am i right?, thanks for all your help by the way, your comments were most helpful.

The D17 transmission is the first reason I say swap, to get into a stronger transsmision more than anything, I really like the numbers that HondaLuver has from his k24/k20 mix or frankenstien swap, add a turbo to any k motor and you should have plenty of power.......I think the power is the easy part thanks to the hasport mounts and k motors floating around everywhere.
Then for suspension I like the choices you had for sways/coilovers etc...I would add the energy bushing kit and get the front X brace. The brakes you want are more money than you need to spend (because the car is light )unless your gonna do a few hundred laps in a row, the wilwood kits with some hawk pads are way cheeper and I've heard nothing but great reviews. and you still get the big brake look that we all love.
If you want a car that will look beautifull then save a bit for upholstery....IMO 2 grand on that will make your car way more than 2 grand sexier. You could also get a new coat of paint to really boost the apearance.
I've missed lots and left out plenty I'm sure but just a few more thoughts on how to help you spend 30 grand or so......and BTW thats help I'm always willing to give

Engine... Do what ever you want.
Suspension.... what are your plans for the car?
Brakes... Big brake kit = Bling... for just about any thing but a pure Track car, and only after youve actually leanred how to drive the thing right..

if no one else said it add about $2000 hidden costs to that total since you know when you buy stuff extra costs pop up like crazy!!!!!!!!
you could buy any number of 200-300 hp new cars that have well over 400hp potental or you could buy a mkIIV and have 600whp for that much money. if you have ever driven a high 200-300 hp FWD car you would NEVER NEVER want over 400 hp... its awful, you cant TOUCH the gas in cornering. long story short... either get out of this car asap, or keep it and enjoy what it can offer... 7th gen is the best handing fwd car ive driven(once modded) and that included a moded rsx-s and an golf gti modded. if your looking for a good handing car with cheap abundant mods and that kind of power... look towards the s14/sr20det or for a bit more money an FD/300zx/supra/etc etc
on a positive note, you seem to have good taste and have dont a good amout of research, about a year ago i had a list of about 10k of stuff i was planning to get for my vic, after a few hundred bucks i just started planning to sell/trade it as im getting a 97-98 s14 240sx asap

What you want to do? Drag? You dont drop 35K into a car for nothing. If so...its not worth it for a fwd car, it would only work on track with slicks, and even then, whats the point?
