7th generation reliability
after reading several posts in tech, such as this: http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=168274
i can't help but wonder if i made the right choice with my 2k1 ex. is it really such a step down from a previous model (the other car that was looking, and can still buy is a 00 ex, same price, same milage 54,000 btw). maybe i'm getting all paranoid
reading all these problematic posts, and noticing all the negative more then i should...? is there anyone who doesn't have any problems with their 7th?

well my 01 is perfectly fine...i think its not the reliability issues for the 7thgen, but more of the annoyances or rather the little things causing trouble such as the gas gauge, rattling, etc. Imo the 7thgen is reliable it just has its lil bugs, but they can be fixed. As far as the tranny's go, i dunno mines fine n i drive it hard.
00 and 05 EX's
I have a 00 EX Coupe and a 05 EX Coupe. I havent had any tranny problems or any little annoying happenings with ethier of them. The only difference to me between my 00 and my 05 is the more solid comfortable ride in the 05 besides the obvious differences. I dont know of any issues with an 01 because i never had one but you also gotta think about besides knowen issues or problems with any type of car it all falls back on how the assembly line worker felt that day haha. anywayz i wouldnt worry 2 much
i'm planning on keeping it stock...maybe getting a different intake, and obviously, the sound system...i'm 6'5'' and i found the 7gen a bit more roomy...will get the life-time alignment from firestone, and that should take care of some of the suspension probs, if i take care of it on the regular basis...i guess i'll just keep my fingers crossed for my tranny, and change the fluid every 30,000, and don't try to be an f-1 driver...altimas are even worse imo.
On my 2001, The cloth in my door panels are peeling off by themselves and one of my passenger side mirrors gets stuck halfway for some damn reason... but those are the only two probs i can think of... either way.. hoping to trade it in for something else later on.. maybe RSX or new si... sigh*

I got an 01 and the engines still going super strong. Like some of the other guys said with 01's its not really a reliability issue but more of the little things...especially rattling. At least our engines arent throwing rods or belts breaking like some other cars. I do admit though, 01 trannys arent too good. I got a manual so its all good but my cousin has 01 auto and its not too smooth.
Rattling is definitely the most common problem with all the 7th gen Civic. I have the 02 & have that problem for a year now. I know few 03 & 04 owners & they're all have the same rattling problem. The 01 & 02 have problems with their shocks. The shocks are easily blown for some reason. Honda fixed that problem for the 03 & above though.
Other than those, the 7th gen Civic is just as reliable as any other Honda vehicles. As with an automatic tranny, most Honda automatic tranny aren't that strong when it comes to abuse. The 7th gen Civic isn't the only one. As a matter fact, Prelude SS tranny & 6th gen Accord V6 auto tranny are a lot worse than our 7th gen Civic auto tranny.
If you're looking to modify your Honda & planning to drive the car real hard, just stay away from Honda automatic tranny. They aren't build for that. Go with the manual tranny. I've barely seen or even experience any Honda manual tranny fails even when it's abused at the race tracks.
I have an 02 EX coupe with 58,000 miles. My 02 have an auto tranny. It's my daily driven car. I change my tranny fluid every 10,000 miles. My tranny still as smooth as butter.

i have an 04 civic vp coupe 5spd, 15 months old now, at first the rattles pissed me off, but im used to them now, and at around 9k miles something off the road tore into my cv boot, and they had it for a while to fix that. im at 30.5k miles now, and no problems since 9k. awesome gas mileage now as compared to back then. good luck
lol ok good, i thought i was the only one with the rattling. i have a 05 Sedan Si (EX). and with my new tein S techs, i can feel the bumps more, the rattling is a little bigger. haha..since i start this thursday at Honda of Canada MFG plant..and yeah, they make the 7thgens there..maybe i can do something about that. HAH.
