service bulletins

i went to the honda dealer last week to see if there was any way to fix my loose glovebox (which they said they could not). anyways he pulls up this list on his computer for an '01 civic and there was a list a freakin mile long with service bulletins for this car, all sorts of problems. that really makes me upset to buy a car you think is so reliable and have so many problems with it.

I bought the extended warranty for my '01, just in case, since it was the first year of a major model change. I've been pretty lucky so far (knock on wood); I've only had a couple of the common issues, possibly because mine was one of the last of that model year.

after 3 years, my ext warranty is starting to pay off. Just got a new alternator. But about the glove box, just wrap some electrical tape around the metal hook bar that the latch goes on. Not too much or it won't close.

pretty much every new model car out there has a list a mile long of TSB's or service bulletins. a TSB is not a recall of any kind, in case anyone was wondering. more often than not, it's simply something that some customers find as an annoyance or something customers complain about, so it's a TSB in response to this. they are also there as informative bulletins for technicians and the like, to inform of changes made to service manuals, information on other technical issues, etc.

regardless, the odds are greatly in your favor that your car will be far more reliable than most domestics.
