S2000 run on wake the dragon tour (video)
This weekend was our Wake the Dragon tour in Alcoa, TN. We had 117 S2000's and had one hell of a time. For those that don't know, the tail of the dragon is an 11 mile stretch of US 129 in the mountains of Tenessee. There are 318 turns in this 11 mile stretch and it ends at Deal's Gap in North Carolina.
The entire run takes about 18 minutes or so, depending on your speed.
This is only about 7 minutes of the video, since the whole thing is too big for me to upload to we-todd-did-racing.com.
The best part of this video, me and the S2k in front of me had an EVO behind us at the beginning of the run. By this point (half way through) he had fallen back and could not keep up.
The Dragon is extremely curvy, and having power isn't going to do much for you. These curves require handling, finesse, and the fine cutting ability of a car and driver to handle the quickest of paces.

I have tons more video I will eventually share, and my girlfriend took over 500 pictures, and i'll post a few once I can. (she's a professional photographer)

really this road is amazing. 318 curves. and i'm talking some banked like hairpin turns. one of the guys had an accelerometer, and he was pushing 1.29g's on some of the curves.
it was awesome running. after each run you had to pull over, and let the car cool down. lol. after pushing it so hard like that you could literally feel the heat just POURING off the brakes, and the tires literally smoked and were sticky. you could run your fingers over the tires and little ***** of rubber would come off.
this was the best thing I've ever done by far!

Either you don't know how to heel-toe, or your downshifting needs some serious help. Some of those were painful to listen to.... It would be better to watch that under closed conditions in daylight... it was pretty obvious that you couldn't push too hard having to stay in the lane.

I agree! You need to work on that!

That road looks pretty challenge. Its has to be one of the most challenging I've seen soo far. Down here in cali where I live, there are 2 roads that people love. Asuza Canyon Road, which is really easy not that hard I could take turns in my old 525i 91' bmw at about 60-65 with the tires starting to slide abit. And theres another road called Glendora Mountain Road aka GMR. If your a drifter and you life in so cali you know what GMR is. The run up to the racing spot is 10 min when you doing about 50mph straight, the run up also includes like 3 back to back hairpin turns. One you get to the top everyon parks and wait for drifters and other racers to come on. Then they race all night long, and you car hear tires squealing. The worst part? No matter where you are on the road theres always a cliff to one side, not like the road you were on. So many people have flown of the road and down the side of the mountain, luckly no one has died yet. When I get use to driving my civic I'll take it up there and record it to let you guys see....

Keep in mind I have never auto-x'ed or ran a road course. This was just going out and seeing what the car could do with the skill level I'm at.

Pbfoot, she went to school for photography for business and personal. She is a wedding photographer, as well as does commercial photos, and shoots for some local magazines.
Here is a picture of us on one of the canyon roads at a clearing. Dont mind the goofy look I have goin on. haha

Buddy of mine went down there last summer on his 04 Yamaha R1. His first bike and had only been riding a few months. Needless to say, with his inexperience, he ate it, hard going around a curve about about 50mph+. Busted the bike all to hell when it went over the side and he dislocated his shoulder and broke his collarbone in 3 places and lost sight and consciousness for awhile. Honestly, I have no sympathy for him for trying to ride like that.

Nice video man, that must have been a blast for you I'm sure. Regarding the track or road or wahtever it was...geez man!, it has more turns than Nurburgring, looks extremely challenging from here so I'd imagine drivng on it. Were there any straight runs to it? It'd have been awesome to see all the cars lined up back to back at high speed...

on the longest straight you could get to MAYBE 80 or 90mph before you'd have to slam on the brakes to turn. and it was a hairpin turn at that....
ACURAwerx, it took 8.5 hours to drive the 700 miles. I was cruising at speed of anywhere from 75mph to 110mph. yes.... CRUISING (cruise control and all) at 110mph.
