Quiet, Advanced and Versatile

The BEL RX65 is the most advanced radar, laser and safety detector ever designed by Beltronics.

The BEL RX65 includes full X, K, SuperWide Ka, and Safety Warning System radar capability, front and rear laser detection, digital signal processing (DSP) for superior range and reduced false alarms, our patented Mute and AutoMute, audible and visual band alerts, and all the performance you'd expect from Beltronics.

Four selectivity functions virtually eliminate false alerts, and Threat Display, a sophisticated means of tracking multiple radar signals, coupled with Digital Voice Technology, keep you informed like no other detector on the market.

My Review:

I opened the box and found a metal black case. Inside the case was my radar detector and power cord. Just simple connect the power cord to the radar detector mount it on your window and your ready to go. Its really easy. The settings that come from the factory are already pretty much all you need. I turned on POP (which comes factory default off, its default off because it can cause false alerts) and I also turned on SMS (factor default is off).

Programming is really easy and mounting is easy too. I don't leave the radar detector on my window when I park because I don't want people breaking in to steal it. At first I thought it would be a hassel to mount it and take it off everytime, but it honestly take less than 5 seconds to take it off or put it on. Due to the quick release mechanism.

The sensitivity of this radar detector is unbelieveable. Although its my first detector I'm quite amazed. On autoscan you almost never hear the radar and it will only come on when it gets a really good signal. On highway mode this this is really sensitive. For example theres a place by my house where I always get a hit of X band, with automode I don't hear anything until I pass it, but with highway mode the detector starts going off about 1000feet away. This is a residential area that has a curvey road and lots of big houses and trees.

Why I picked the beltronics over the Valentine 1 or the Escort 800 x50? Well I picked the Rx65 over the Valentine because it was 150-200 dollars cheaper. The Bel Rx65 can do everything the valentine can except it doesn't have arrows to tell which direction the radar signal is coming from. Not to mention the Rx65 has better pop detection compared to the valentine 1 with v1.8 pop programming and better false signal filtering. Also the Rx65 has a voice that tells me what band i'm receiving (really cool cuz my friends are all wowed by it). Also I didn't get the Escort because it was basically the same detector as the Bel but didn't have the voice and the Ku band for euopean countries, plus it was more expensive.

I'd like to add that I've had the detector for 1 week and its already saved me from a ticket. Today I was coming back from the mail box etc store and I decided to put my detector on for fun to see if I could get a few hits. I pull out of the parking lot and make a right onto the street. I'm driving a long at a good 55 (speed limit 40) with a jeep and white solora in front of me and we are approaching a freeway underpass. Suddenly my radar goes off (its in auto mode) and it detects a Ka band frequency with a strength of 6 (on scaled of 1 - 9). I thought maybe it was coming from the freeway above and that some cop was tracking a driver, but I trusted my radar and slammed on the brakes and slowed down to 40. By this time we had cleared the underpass and the jeep and solora had gained a few car lengths on me because I had braked. We round the bend and theres a cop sitting in a driveway. My radar is going off like crazzy, but I its not annoying. It has the auto mute feature which turns down the volume. The jeep passes the cop, then the solora and he just sits there. I started to freak cuz I thought he was going to wait and follow me, but instead he turns his lights on and chases the solora down. I was soo happy...I rolled past the cop and smiled and he looked at me then my radar detector. 1 week and my radar has already paid itself off.

Thanks for reading the review! I recommend all your speeders out there get one of these babies!! Look for them on ebay, theres a company selling them brand new non refurbished for $221 + shipping.

Beltronics rocks.

I bought the vector 895 model at Radioshack last week. $200. It's the exact same as the RX series, just no support for the european bands. It's functionally the same (VG2 immune, signal processor, all bands + laser, voice, even display is the same). I'm not sure if it has the upgradeability, but i don't think so.

Great product, and very smart. The autoscan mode easily tells the difference between shopping malls and cops. Quite sensitive at distance... the thing shows 6 /10 if the cop is 1/4 mile away, TONS of time to slow down.

Highly recommended!

unfortunately radar detectors are somewhat ineffective with laser and lidar. In fact, most detectors won't even detect Gen III Lidar. (i've seen a valentine 1 and beltronics unit sit there like a cricket on a log while pointing a Gen III lidar gun right at it)

That's why I stopped using radar detectors a long time ago. it gives you a false sense of security. for radar they work decently, though instant-on can cause a problem. but with laser/lidar, generally, radar detectors will only go off if the laser actually hits the car/unit. by then it's too late. and with laser and lidar, they can pick you off from over 3500 feet away.... WELL over a 1/4 mile. it's pinpoint accuracy. with Gen III lidar, the beam is something like a mere 6 inches wide at 5000 feet.

I have the same radar detector. I bought it in january after i got a ticket at a speed trap. Its already saved me from four tickets. I guess the only negative part is that with the detector, it'll make you speed more...lol.

The valentine one does not have pop detection though. Escort bought out beltronics awhile back so there Escort 8500 x50 is a rebadged Beltronics x65 except the escort has slightly more refinements. The Beltronics is as good as the escort, but $70 cheaper, definately a the best buy.

I turned off my x band detection because they don't use it anymore in california and its used mostly by garge door openers lol. I know chp uses Ka band and some old cop vehicles still use K band. I turned on my pop too, the cops around my area sometimes like to pop first then use the radar.

good review, i would recommend this detector to anyone that needs a detector.

here's a review of radar detectors for 2004

Good point s2000man. Yea the detectors aren't good against laser and lidar, but I don't think either of those are quite popular in california. But something is better than nothing for me...and I think the radar has already paid itself off. The next step...gotta get me one of them laser jammers!! LoL

Thats true, most radar detectors have trouble detecting laser, since cops tap your taillight and not your front windshield. Most cops i know in california at least in my area still use conventional radar. But if the radar detector saves from one ticket, then its already paid for itself. dont know how much speeding ticket are in WA are, but in california one ticket can cost $165 or up $200. My last ticket was $200 and it was going 75mph in a 65mph, which everyone does on the freeway anyways.
