Shell Gasoline....top tier
Shell Gasoline....top tier
I just read the post on this website about Shell gas and that they are Top Tier. However, is it true that shell has methanol in their gas? Is this not bad for our engines? In the manual it says not to use any gasoline with methanol in it. Please let me know
like you said, methanol is bad. so even if shell is top tier, i wouldnt go to them. there was another company (76, sunoco, phillips 77) that is top tier, but i havent heard of their fuels containing methanol. so if you dont want to go to shell, i suppose just go to one of the other ones i mentioned.

the high end gasoline that shell has is the best gas out there. my dad used to own a couple of shell stations, and i am not saying that shell has the best gas just because of that biased reason. there is another comparable company and i think that is exxon. alot of these different gas stations buy shell gasoline

um methanol, are you sure you don't mean ethanol? I'll go check out the shell station here and let you guys know. If it's good, I'm always getting gas there instead of mobil.
i remember they use to advertise chevron with techron lol, i remember all those car advertisements. theres a chevron on one corner, a mobil on the other, and a Hess right next to the chevron and guess where everyone goes? the hess because they charge 2 cents cheaper then the other two lol. i do admit i go to hess and usually i just go to wawa but there is a huge BP gas station which i believe is connected to a refinery cuz theres tons of trucks and tanks behind it and they charge usually like 6-10 cents more per gallon but i bet they have some fresh gas lol. i've stuck with wawa gas forever in my car and no problems, i do plan on trying the bp place cuz it looks pretty neat looking and all and no one ever goes there i guess cuz there a little more expensive. whoever has the cheapest gas people go to i guess. same way i think, i mean i see mercedes and bmws and stuff rolling in and im in my little civic, if its good enough for them mercedes, its good enough for me at the cheap place lol.

Chevron-Texaco earned Top Tier designation. Here's the link: http://motortrend.com/features/news/112_news49/

Hmm shell doesn't have any signs about methanol or anything else. Anyway Honda was one of the program members so I think they would've said something. There are tons of cars getting shell gas they can't add something that isn't good.

i've always put shell or chevron in my car... shell gets me better gas mileage for some reason... and i'm more of a believer in shell when i saw that there is a shell gas pump in a ferarri test track (saw it in some video online)
From all the mentions I see of 'top tier' gas on this site, it looks to me as though Derek is probably taking in some serious payolla from Shell/Texaco to tout their product...I'm sticking with Hess for now. I don't recall BMW telling me that my cars need to run on certain brands of gas...Maybe it will say this in the M5 manual when I get it

I thought the owners manual said up to 10% ethanol is ok?
BP has additives too, but apparently not as much as Shell does and the other top tier..
EDIT: I just went out to my car and checked the manual, I was flipping to the index, and saw ethanol, heh that was quick..

wait I'm really confused right now...
so is shell gas (V-Power, 93 Octane) better for our cars than other stations normal gases or is it worse?
I'm assuming just because its 93 and because its a Top Tier Gas Station its better, but am I wrong??

Shell regular and mid grades have 2x the detergent required, premium has 5x the detergent and this v-power gas is considered the best. I wouldn't get it tho just cuz it's higher octane than I need.
Now playing Devil's Advocate, I remember reading numerous threads about how only morons pay for the 93 octane gas and our Civics were designed for the 87. So with the V-Power being 93, with all the extra detergents, should we now be using the 93, occasionally using the 93, or avoiding the 93 altogether since our cars are intended to have the cheap stuff?
