Shell is among one of the gas companies that I hate most. They're too expensive, and it seems like EVERYTIME I fill up with them I get less gas mileage than if I was to fill up with Exxon. Basically, Exxon/Chevron are the only places that I like to go...

IMO, this is one of those discussions that has been around since the begining of gasoline, back where there was leaded gas, and than cars switched over to unleaded. Soon, almost all gas will have ethanol in it. I dont see any bad things about ethanol. My car gets better gas mileage when I use gas with ethanol, than without ethanol. In Iowa, gas that has ethanol is cheaper than gas without ethanol. I also believe it is added into it up here, cause it gets so muthafuc*in' cold up here, and the gas doesnt freeze. Bottom line, all gas have additives in it. Other bottom line is, 95% of us here drive 4-cylinder, 16,000 dollar, econoboxes called Honda Civics. We are not driving Bently's or Ferrari's here, where we have to put in higher octane gas into our cars unless you are bottle-fed or have a turbo. Look at it this way, why spend a couple more cents on gas to line the pockets of our good 'ol Pres.

If your intent is to have higher octane then it is the wrong reason to use a higher grade because the higher octane does not benefit a Civic in terms of performance. However, if you just want the extra detergent, then by all means. But it is more economical to put in a bottle of injector cleaner every 3K - 5K than to buy premium gas at every fillup.
