Directv Questions.....
I know this is completely off topic from our civics, but i figured that most members on this site are american so it would be best to come here and ask.....
I've had a Directv satellite system in my house now for a little over a year now, and I'm just wondering if its legal since I am not paying any monthly fees, and live in Canada. At least every other house in my subdivision has a directv satellite system, some people have two dishes. Also curious to know if anyone who lives in the states does the same thing

you're right, thats why we have an off topic forum

nope, its not legal, at least here in Mex is a federal offense, since you're stealing communications signals.
Due to closeness to the borderline with the US, i get to receive the same signal without interference, but now dtv systems are more controlled, they ask for a US ID and credit card number to sell them out. if you dont activate it within 1 month, they'll charge you about 300 dls.
thats because tons of people down here were buying US systems and activating them illegaly.

My q. is how are you getting a signal without paying? Did you trick out your H card? Or do you have an emmulator? How are you running yours in Canada and how do you keep your card from getting zapped?

sorry for posting it here guys, but thanx for your answers....but to answer silverdevil's question, practically everyone i know has a card programmer hooked up to their computers, so whnever my card does get zapped, i give it to one of my buddies and they re-program it for me within a matter of minutes. I also have a chip that i connect to my dtv reciever which i then connect my card too. so far my card hasn't been zapped for about 8 months. I'm just surprised that people that live in the states arent doing the same thing, i just figured that since practically everyone that i know now a days owns a directv system and isnt paying for it, the states r doing the same thing
