You should shift at redline. if you time it right you'll shift right before your rev limiter.

actually hitting your rev limiter too much IS A BAD THING and puts a lot of stress on your bottom end. eventually you could throw a rod if you hit your rev limiter too much.

I don't see how this comment relates to my post ...

bgoetz - your tach is off. get an aftermarket tach, vafc, profec e-01 or anything else that shows your rpms and you'll realize that it's off.

for example, older integra type r's had a limiter at 8600 rpm stock, but for some people, their tach showed 8900. go search honda-tech, you'll see that I'm correct.

same for the b16b's ... some people's tach showed 8900 when it was only 8400 rpms.

same goes for most engines out there.

^^^sorry I did not mean to sound like an ***. I think I was drunk when I posted that because I really don't remember doing it (just now read it and was like "wtf") LOL. I m sure it is a bit off someone did get over 7000 on their VAFC so I bet mine is about the same.

i plan on getting the Hondata flash or k-pro just to lower the vtec changeover. I have never had the motor above 8100 and never plan too. I go by what the factory says you should rev at, not what a tuning company does.

116 BHP @ 5700 rpm
139 FtLBs @ 3200 rpm

engine block can handle 250 BHP with out force induction.

Theres a guy with an em hatch that comes to my store once in a while, hes sponsored by skunk2 and has a b18 with about $25000 in the motor alone. I sat in his car and SAW it rev to 13500! thats superbike territory!!!!

I've revved my D17 to 8k over and over at least once every week for the past 6 months. The engine is fine/solid as a rock! It's my transmission and clutch thats not!

I don't have an aftermarket ECU i've just got a fuel cut defender installed. I usually change gears at 8k - God dahm the engine screems... In a few weeks I'll have cam + pulleys installed and see how it sounds then..

BTW; Your car is NOT making power all the way to 8K RPM, I promise you.

Also, with the stock valve train you are in SERIOUS danger of valve float (and a bent/chipped/broken valve[s] as well as jacked pistons and other internals).

Yes it’s cool to say it goes that high, but with your head and cam (or lack there of) as well as compression and most importantly valve train, you are really putting your engine in danger while making your car slower.

i just did it tonight i hit 8000 shifting instead to forth to second at 6000rpm in third my friend was driving showing me something to do with quicker shifting pedal still depressed and clutch shift never ket go of the gas didnt work out to well

I keep hearing this valve floating. Typically its when you have a hyd cam setup like a pushrod motor and you rev it beyond its capacity and pump all the oil from your lifters. Also its when the valve is being compressed to fast for the valve spring to rectract the valve so she stays open for along time almost like a mechanical rev limiter. Usually an engine designed to rev to 6800 is prolly built enough to go past it a bit. How ever you chance over stressing the valve spring and breakage will occure. Which will lead to things you could never imagine. To the person who stated that you are not making power past 7000k.....dead on(if stock cam) the stock cam was profiled to run right to the redline if not before. Going past it is just wasted gas and wear and tear on your internals. Truthfully reving that high has to be built which is prolly why the k does not liked to be toyed with. I have had motors built and engines like in the s2000 is money big time money to build.

I really don't think that hitting the rev limiter causes damage. It is simply a fuel cut off. I have been on the limiter alot and know people that have hit it more and had no problems

yeah but if you cut off fuel you are leaning it out big time, and I guess over time this could cause a problem. I have done it uncountable times, But i guess if you did it every time it could lead to problems...
