That looks damn nice! The sideview reminds me (sort) of like a scaled down BMW Z4. I like the Miatas look much better though.
For those of you who think it is a "girly car", go drive one. There is more to cars than just 1/4 mile times.
Mazda and others will all tell you, the Miata is designed to be a BALANCED sports car. You may not get that until you drive it.
The best way I know how to describe it is this: Have you ever had to drive your parents car (Buick, Lincoln, etc.) and noticed how numb it felt compared to your car? Like you are just sitting on a couch watching the road go by? Well I used to drive an Integra GSR, which feels pretty quick and sporty itself, and after test driving a Miata for 20 minutes that is exactly how my GSR felt. The Miata IS that good. It is not just about horsepower, it is about steering input, handling, the shifter, braking, everything. Try one, you will not be disappointed.

the front is somewhat similar... but not very. and thats about all that i see that looks the same. i think this new miata looks like a small s2000. maybe a s2000 with a few bmw z4 characteristics?

i just noticed. cupholders in the doors instead of the center console like in the nb. not sure what to think of that. im guessing the big drinks wont fit too well in those. just big enough for a water bottle or a can of soda or something. hopefully a coffee. looks clean though.

The shifter was shakey because the car is RWD, drive any 5spd RWD vehicle & watch the shifter shake in neutral.
So you are telling me that if I test drive the BMW Z4, the engine will be just as rough?

Not necessarily, the Z4 is a luxury roadster, designed for a different market, to be more smooth/comfortable, the Miata was designed as a no BS, bank for the buck sports car. To say the Miata isnt refined besed on this, is rediculous.
The shifter will shake in the Z4 though, maybee not as much as the Miata, but more than your civic...
Also, the Miata engine dosent run rough, its shakey due to stiffer motor mounts.

Look, Mazda uses direct link transmissions. In other words, the shifter and gear box are connected in unison with the transmission rather than a series of cables like your civic. This makes it shake a little more, but is a more precise set-up and better for driving.
This explains the vibrations you feel in your stick shift.
