oh man...those miatae suck. i mean parking it alone is like trying to get a 747 into a keyhole.
yeah, for those that asked, shifting mid corner not only distrurbs the weight balance but also jolts the drivetrain (obviously), so if youre on the limits of grip with the rear tires you will lose traction unless the shift is SUPER smooth. isnt this an actual drifting technique in the drift bible? either downshifting and upshifting real quick to break traction or pressing on the clutch real quick to disturb the balance/shock the drivetrain?? i remember something about that.

Since he was smart enough not to do that around people but dumb enough not to do this on a real racetrack, And because he was taking that turn a lot faster than his skills permitted I have to call him an idiot. The good thing is that he's leart from his experience.
hey we all take turns a little faster every once and then.. I remember that with my old miata mx-3 I had really worn-out tires and the streets were still humid from the rain. Enter a curve at the regular speed I take it (within the reasonable and the speed limit) but I drifted off into understeer. Tried to hit the front brakes really hard, but I had more than enough inertia to hit the sidewall & rim against the walkway... $50 to replace the (steel) rim. Oh well.. that thought me to be careful with tires in rain :S

16 with an RX-8? DAYM, he shouldve learned on another car first, o well atleast he learned. We all made mistakes with our first cars I remember tryin some stupid **** with my first stick shift. Don't Trip ROOKIE you'll be arite! Enjoy that Rx-8 safely!
The insurance company is going to say "There's no way you could of pulled this off under normal driving conditions, you were speeding/racing". Then he can watch his insurance double. Although if he "earned" the RX-8 from his parents he probably also has insurance taken care of for him too.
I don't care how rich you are, buying a 15 year old kid a $30,000 sports car is ridiculous. Buy him a KIA or a Daewoo when they're first learning to drive...make sure they CAN drive first.
