Who Will Win.
Ive been beefing a little with S2000man on a stock 04 GTO auto or manual "VS" stock S2K. I did research on S2K's quarter times as well as he. I own a GTO but never raced an S2K b4 and he owns a S2k and raced GTO's and beat them. When I do encounter an S2K ill post it here but in the meantime I want people's honest opinions what they think the outcome will be. I know there 2 different classes but apperantly their not.

the honest answer is it's a driver's race, with the advantage going to the GTO. in the case of the auto that is. the manual GTO should be able to pull on an S2k without too much a problem.
But i've beaten two GTO auto's so far. albeit barely, but I did.
and whoever said 14.5 for an S2000 is WAY WAY off. 13.7 is much more like it my friend.
bottom line is no one is going to run their best time every time they race. so in a race where one car does 13.7 at best and another does about the same (with a slightly higher trap) you're talking a driver's race, with a slight advantage going to the one with the higher trap.

Back on topic, if it was a drag then a manual GTO could probably have an advantage. Auto... not sure. But if it was a road course wouldn't the S2K destroy the GTO?
Also... aren't they making a new GTO with a Corvette engine? If so i'd be interested to see some numbers.

well the new gto's have 400 hp 6.0 liters in them and i dont think that the weight difference is enough to overcome the 160 hp difference between the s2k and gto... also gto isnt tooo bad in handling but of course s2k is better. seriously tho id rather have the torquey v8

honestly I wouldn't drive a pontiac if I got paid to do it. After being in a vibe GT the fact that they try to pass it off as sporty I cannot forgive their ignorance. Its a manual mini van. So F pontiac and a bigger F to GM for existing. They are all evil and worthless.
Not to mention american cars hold on to value like an epileptic holding onto wet soap.
Have it for a second then it just diasppears...the value that is.

everyone is saying that gto runs 13.5 and ive seen a few different sites saying 14.4-5 for s2ooo (must be wrong cus stock cobalt ss runs 14.5) now youre all saying its a drivers race... any race is a drivers race... if i raced a type s and the driver sucked so bad that i won it doesnt change the cars perfomance in any way and this thread isnt about drivers its about cars so would this mean that my car is faster than a type s NO

by the way, to clarify we are talking pre 2005 pontiac GTO. the new GTO with 400hp would pull an S2000 any way you look at it.
No offense, but if you drag race an S2K you should be shot. They're amazing cars, and respectable quarter mile burners, but it's really not their strong point.
I'm not sure about the GTO, but large displacement, clumsy, muscle cars look equally as ridiculous on an auto-cross/open track course.

On the other hand, if I wanted to carve with precision, the scalpel is the tool of choice.

A stock GTO would spank a stock S2K in the quarter mile; however, the S2K would hand the GTO itz azz in an autocross event.

both the s2000 and gto are being raced in drifting events but a stock s2000 might be easier to drive. Seems like the lighter cars are easier to drift. Ive never tried drifting so i dont know, but to me it would probably be easier is a more nimble car that you wouldnt mind turning so fast in.

that's a different spyder that owns the blue z
i've seen some fast gto locally, but i haven't seen any fast s2k, so from my prespective, i'd say the gto is the winner
the vibe is actually a toyota, not a gm, if you have a problem with it, take it to toyota
as for the car value argument, that's not part of this topic, the topic of this discussion is which is faster in the 1320, not who can out last another
i am really sick of all these people rag on other cars that they never sat in, nor drive with. driving a civic doesn't mean you are the god of the car world

auto gto vs S2000. no.
in fact, if you're going to say auto GTO vs S2000 with me driving the S2000. i'll say the S2k is gonna win. I'm not sayin my sh*t dont stink, but i'm a damn good driver in an S2000. and the auto GTO and S2k are so damn close in performance straight line, it's not even funny. we are talking barely a tenth of a second from the numbers i've seen online for the auto GTOs. so far the best i've been able to find was a 13.6
Sorry, but unless the driver of the S2k is one hell of a driver, the GTO will win. Back when I had my Firebird (which was only a V6 by the way), I had smoked SEVERAL S2k's. So, basically, either all 4 or 5 of those drivers just REALLY sucked (which is possibly I suppose), or the S2k just really isn't all that great of a car. And to be honest with you all, as cool as the S2k looks, or as well as it supposedly performs, it just really doesn't look all that great to me on paper. Plus, it costs way too much. No need for flaming, just my opinions and experiences.

Sorry to say...and the S2K can edge out an RX-8, although their numbers are VERY similar.
