Ducati or Buell? Opinions
get the ducati, i have riden one before the old 916 and that bike was badass then so a new should be just as badass now, its a race ready street bike in every aspect, your *** will hurt after 20 mins or so and your thighs will get a little hot from the pipes, DO IT
Yeah I can see that considering I couldnt even tell what it is and I have a small amount of knowledge on bikes. I've always wanted one just too dangerous for me, I know that I would fly everywhere I went which would not be a good thing eventually.

I was going to buy this bike, but the only reason I didn't buy was because I wanted to turbo the civic, which I'm in the process of. My salesman told that Aprilia's are cheaper to repair than ducati but a little more expensive than all of the Jap bikes. I'm very happy with my GSXR-1000.

The Buell hold fuel in the frame and has the oil resevoir in the swing arm...thats pretty unique as well. I looooove the ducati...but my only complaint is it is basically a track bike. I do most of my riding on the street. I think the more upright seating and lower pegs will make the buell more comfortable for longer hauls. I'm still torn. I'm going to demo the buell tomorrow (wednesday) and see how I like it.
As far as gsxr's and the other japanese bikes. There are like 874358 million of them around here....plus I don't like how wide the inline four bikes are. The twin bikes are a lot thinner and it doesn't feel like I'm riding a barrel. I had an R6...I loved it. But i'm looking for something more unique looking(buell) or more exotic (ducati) that is a vtwin (if honda would bring back the V4 like in the VFRs or the old rc40... that would be cool)

Also..to the haters of american technology...Buells workmanship has greatly improved since they became funded by HD. They were smart enough to leave Eric Buell at the helm of the ship...since if HD took it over, it would be a nice oil spreading machine. HD provides the financial backing...and the engine blocks...everything inside the engine is made by buell...so it's not just a sportster engine in a cool frame. OK I know I sound like a buell commercial..but I want to make sure it gets a fair shake...I'm not buying a ducati just for the name.

Yes indeed. So far I like it here. I need to get out a little more though...nothing but work for the last few months. And for the record I'm down to 3 cars
The WRX is being sold though (why have a payment when work provides a vehicle?) So I'll be down to 2 cars and a bike, and a snowmobile, possibly a boat next winter
Where did you move to again? now that I know the area somewhat I might know where the hell you are. We'll have to get together one weekend. Buy a bike so we can go riding in the summer.
No other bike that I can think of is as innovative as Buell's latest designs. The fuel actually goes into the frame of the bike, rather into a fuel tank. This keeps centrifugal force down, and makes an awesome corner taking v-twin rocket. I'm sorry, but nobody can really touch Buell right now.
Think of it this way, would you rather run around holding 3 gallons of water on your shoulders, or around your waists, evenly spread throughout to make a perfectly balanced weight ratio?
To the original poster, I think you're simply asking this question to the wrong forum. Alot of these guys don't really know what they're talking about when it comes to bikes, and quite frankly, they pick the Ducatis and Aprilias because they think it's cooler to have a Euro bike than American.
The Buell handles and goes just as well as a Duc, looks quite exotic with a street fighter flair, has many innovations over the competition, costs less, is less on maintenance, and parts are cheaper. Gee...I think the only thing the Duc's and Aprilias have going for them is their name.

I figured a lot of these guys would say Duc based on the name alone. I just wanted to see what the consensus was. I'm actually going with a Buell. Ducatis are great track bikes...but I spend very little time on the track anymore. Besides....sitting on a duc for more than 45 mins is torture.

The ducati probably handles better than the buell but the buell is faster so its kinda like buying a civic v. whatever else - handels good and looks great or ugly and fast. I'ev seen those on the street and any jap bike will blow a ducati out of the water straight but when its time to turn thats where you catch up. I'd still buy the ducati the V-twin sounds great.

As for the CBRs...and GSXRs and the such...they are a dime a dozen. Not to mention I don't like how wide the 4s are. I had an R6..I liked it..but I prefer the thinner twins..not to mention the lean angle on the sport bikes gets old real fast. I am buying the buell. If anyone wants a 2001 Ducati 748 for $7500 let me know
I can hook you up. Thread Starter

Another funny thing...as I said in the very first post...a lot of members on this board have thier facts completly wrong. Great people to get style opinions from...but facts..not so much.
That said there are a few people that know what they are talking about.
