Just curious to see what octane gas you guys use, and if the octane differences really actually make a difference for our Civics.

This subject has been beaten over many times.... Previous conclusion; Unless you have signifigantly altered the compression ratio of your engine, either by Forced Induction or other means, then you are wasting $ buying higher octane gasolines.

heres a Report on Octane Rateings Comming from the FTC (Federal Trade Commision)
http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/autos/octane.htm

you are WASTING money if you run anything higher than regular 87 octane gas on your civic.

in fact, you are actually HURTING your car's performance. that's right kids... higher octane makes the civic go slower. not to mention in the long run it puts much more wear and tear on your engine.

unless your turbo'd or have a higher compression than stock, do NOT put anything except regular 87 octane in your tank.

wow this topic has been slaughtered to death. i have had my car for about 20 months. for the first 13 months i used 93 every single time because i was a noob. i tried 87 one time and never went back to 93 again! my fuel economy went up incredibly on 87 and the performance did not change at all. the bottom line is that 93 and up is made for higher compression engines and burns alot easier and faster, thus its not for civics! even if you have i/h/e, you are better off with 87.

I dont know about warm states but here in michigan I learned working at a garage when I was younger that higher octanes have higher flashpoints and in the dead of winter alot of cars flood because they wont start right off the bat. We would get twenty or thirty vehicles every year come in becuase of no start, we would let them sit untill they were room temp and they start everytime!.. Just my 2 cents..

somewhat related... last time i filled up i put in 13.56 gallons... our tanks hold 13.2 gallons. how did this happen? also, it seems like I am going to get more miles on this fillup as it reads 250 and its not even at the halfway point (and yes i understand the flaws of the gauge). So how was I able to put in 13.56?

i went over board of the fuel tank capacity before. it clicks and stops when it hits the limit, but i contunie so it even out the dollars. when the bill comes in the mail, so i only have to pay even amounts instead of $100.93 cents. etc.

i re-read my owners manual and it says "pump octance fuel/gasoline 86 or higher" so if they say higher, would honda really let us damage our cars by filling up with 91+ ?
