there are ways, but they are expensive
The only major upgrades you will get power up from that are reliable will be port & polish'ed head, bored throttle body, and decent intake/exhaust. that will be almost as much as turbo but should get you over 150hp.
as of now hondata is still working on a D17 chip so no easily tunable systems for our cars yet.
someone add to this list if there are more!

Everything i agree with you on, but the TC gets owned by the civic when it comes to mileage.
TC
Fuel Tank Capacity: 14.5 gal.
EPA Mileage Estimates: (City/Highway)
Manual: 22 mpg / 29 mpg
Range in Miles: (City/Highway)
Manual: 319 mi. / 420.5 mi.
Civic
Fuel Tank Capacity: 13.2 gal.
EPA Mileage Estimates: (City/Highway)
Manual: 32 mpg / 37 mpg
Range in Miles: (City/Highway)
Manual: 422.4 mi. / 488.4 mi.
In real life terms, your probably going to get low 20's with the TC and low 30's with the civic.
The TC is more bang for your buck, but the person stated he needed a communter car. This is where the civic excels in and should be his choice.
He can choose more hp and less mileage with the TC or you can save money now on the civic and turbo it later to get the hp.
The TC is a great car, but not the best if your travelling long miles at least mpg.

I'm not sure its wise to go turbo on our cars. If your gonna go turbo you could just go buy a rsx Type S. Turbo is a big investment, I don't know if the stock engine components can handle turbo. There's the clutch, the pistons which aren't forged, the axles I don't know if they can handle the increased horsepower. The powerband will be weird the car power will just peak all of a sudden. Anyhow its a complicated topic there a whole section on turbo on this forum.

turboing a civic is not the best idea unless its an Si. the K20 is alot more welcoming to forced induction than our D17's!

(thats a dont ever even talk about that on this site again! Ill be polite and say no, but this will get you flamed. seriously the only way to gain power is through major engine work/swap/forced induction. You could go the other route and do suspension mods and have a very FAST turning car.
Well, at 80mph the RPMs will be hitting the 4000, but fuel economy is great comparing it with many other small cars. It IS A RELIABLE CAR, at least my 01 civic have been a great reliable car. My dislikes??... well... stock suspension bounces a lot, but been told that 04 and 05 doesn't have the same problem (BUT NOT SURE ABOUT IT), and I would like that the RPMS go lower on 5th gear while crusing. thats all. But I really love my car.
Good Luck!

o man. 8th gen civic. As nice of an idea as that is..it kinda sucks. Cause if i buy an 05 and they make the 06 sick, then ima be pissed off and wanna get rid of my 05. If i wait til fall when the 06 civics are for sale, by then my explorer will be worth even less and it wouldnt be worth getting it.
