you can call nitrous oxide NOS
This seems to be coming up, and so everyone gets the point, read on:
enough with the damn "it's not NOS, NOS is a brand, it's called nitrous oxide".
we all friggin know that NOS is a misnomer. but calling it "NOS" is not necessarily wrong, since it's a widely used/accepted term for nitrous oxide. When you say "NOS" people know you are referring to nitrous oxide.
just like when you have to blow your nose, you ask for a kleenex. yeah well kleenex isn't what it's called. kleenex is a company that happens to make FACIAL TISSUE. but if i ask for a kleenex you know what i'm talking about without having to jump all over my back about it right?
good. so chill out if someone uses the term NOS. it's perfectly acceptable.

hahaha... I know it gets annoying sometimes but yeah, like you said, NOS is a brand that people assosiate with it so you might as well call it that anyway.
No biggy.
No biggy.
Actually I would prefer people not call it "nos" because that term was born in the movie fast n the furious, and thats pretty gay if you ask me. Plus my nitrous kit isnt made by nos either so I see no reason to call it "nos" when its really just nitrous oxide.

no i will not call it Nawz. it's nitrous to me. BTW i am guilty of saying kleenex, jacuzzi, and q-tip but as of now i'll call it facial tissue, whirl pool bath tub, and sticks with cotton on the ends.
