Faster Car for $11-12K?

A close friend is willing to buy my civic for around $8k, then I have 2K saved up and then my folks might add in another 1 or 2 thousand. I'm basically looking for a faster car the my Auto EX. I really want a manual, a coupe , something fairly new, pref. Honda/Toyota/Acura (something reliable). Not many choices I know, but I hope you guys can lead me in a right direction. This time I want to make an informed decision about getting a car.

get a crx or hatch for like 1000-2000 bux and swap b18 turbo... youll run 13s easily with 10k, but if u want something new, ur not going to get anything fast for 10k... used civics are like 10k. since u have a automatic, turboing isn't that great of a idea... so just keep saying up ur money i guess and get a swap

It's been in rough accident from the front of the car, but neither engine nor tranny was touched. The car has run with no problems since it was fixed in June. It has 25,800 miles on it. I mean I bet its reliability is as good as any civic out there, just that there's a typical fact that a car's value dimishes in an accident.
I'd absoultely keep the car but I just want something faster and a manual tranny.

Also I'd want to avoid those 92-98 civics. Too many riced out here in NYC, just can't stand them to tell you the truth.

"Excellent" condition means that the vehicle looks new, is in excellent mechanical condition and needs no reconditioning. This vehicle has never had any paint or body work and is free of rust. The vehicle has a clean title history and will pass a smog and safety inspection. The engine compartment is clean, with no fluid leaks and is free of any wear or visible defects. The vehicle also has complete and verifiable service records. Less than 5% of all used vehicles fall into this category.

Private Party Value Search Local Listings for This Car $11,550
Private Party Value is what a buyer can expect to pay when buying a used car from a private party. The Private Party Value assumes the vehicle is sold "As Is" and carries no warranty (other than the continuing factory warranty). The final sale price may vary depending on the vehicle's actual condition and local market conditions. This value may also be used to derive Fair Market Value for insurance and vehicle donation purposes.

I guessed on the mileage and condition but if you have 50,000 on an 03 then man you drive a lot.

I doubt he'd find a rsx for that low, a celica gt-s with high miles will be in the 13k range, and a gti would just be pimp. I like the gti idea

Boy I wish I could get a used rsx or celica gt-s in that price range, I'd jump on it in a sec (my 2 ideal choices actually). The GTI I don't want to buy because a Volksvagen has had reliability issues lately with their cars (mainly cause they're made in Mexico), plus parts are costly.

I know I'm being picky here, but I just want to make a good choice here.

I got your pm thanks. Heres the value of the car in fair condition. I still kinda put the miles high I have a 2001 and still dont have that many miles, but like I said you can get more then 8gs for that car. I guess if your looking to make a quick sell then go ahead and take it, but if you got the time wait it out for a better price.

You guys listed some great performing cars (300z, miata, wrx). But those would have to be older cars than what I'm aiming at. :/

How about an old FC3S Turbo II? You could probably have one of those for pretty cheap. I'd recommend an S13 or something, but everybody is buying those up to do actual S13/Sil-eighty/S14/S15 conversions on.

I guess you can get a new very high-mileage Prelude or RSX for that price... probably in the 170k area...

97-01 Preludes didn't come in Si form.
Either Base/S or SH form.

Why is him getting a GTI such a great idea?Is it upgrading the stock turbo or
something or getting the V6?

You can get an 02 or 03 SI for about that price. Me friend works at a car dealership and just picked up a 02 S2000 with 35k miles for 14000 out the door. If you can find a deal like that
