Heel to Toe Downshifting
In my continuing efforts of trying to spread good information, techniques, and knowledge, I have found the easiest to understand of all tutorials on heel to toe downshifting.
Enjoy.

Nice read. Know of any similar guides on just driving a manual? I've found a few, but not impressed. I'm obviously an auto driver. Big mistake. I got the auto, but its not what I really wanted. I was swayed by its comfort in stop and go traffic. I assure you, this mistake will not happen with the next car purchase. I've been driving autos way too long...

A good downshift should be HEARD NOT FELT.
As for other guieds on driving, car and driver had some pretty good tutorials on their website.

not to brag or anything
I've been doing this for quite some time now and didn't even know there was a term for it. What's really cool, if you can do it, is not even use the clutch. No, I'm not talking about an automatic either. I think it's easier to clutchless downshift than clutchless upshift with our cars. Bigger trucks with hydralic clutches are super easy. I feather the gas alot.

I just feather the gas too.....
if you're changing at about 4500rpm just rev it up to about 6 grand and slam it down
no need for the clutch....
Note: not liable for the transmission you leave in the road

big toe in the center of the brake, you're aiming for the bottom of the gas pedal. The real hard part is to keep the pressure with your toe constant, and blip the gas with a roll of your ankle. Its a little tricky, I don't recommend doing it at low revs, its actually harder. Wanna hear and see it? If I get a chance, I'll pull together some track video and make sense of it. It takes some work... honestly, its easier to do with the car revved up, but make sure when you downshift, you're not going to overrev.

I wonder if it works when you have an auto. Its always easier to do it when you're bare footed, you get more of the feeling and you'll know how much more pressure you'll need to apply. Try it.
