ECU Therory
K guys, give me some input on this theory or let me know if any of you have already checked this out.
Here in the US we are somewhere around 1 1/2-2 years behind Japan technology wise. Think there might be a good possibility that they already have an upgraded ecu or aftermarket ecu for our cars (D17) in Japan. Now this is a theory so don't raz me to hard if this sounds kind of hair-brained.

yeah i would say your theory is most likely right, i mean when my neighbor went to japan cause of the marines he got me a PS2 8 months before it came out he. granted the games were all in japanese but it was still cool to have. but yeah they most likely have some kinda upgrades for it.

I was looking at the price overlap and you can get an Integra in Japan for the same price as a 1.7L Civic in some places. You would have to shell out a little more though if you want an Integra-R.
but it is Japan, and they do some crazy things over there... Also, the 1.7L is considered the optional engine there so there might be something.

No, I might consider going if I can get sufficient input. Unless somebody knows someone in Japan or knows an importer or something.

lol....i'm beginning to get very desprate(sp) and i can get decent airfare, but i don't want to make a trip if i don't have to or take one and it turn out to be a wash.
ask anyone at a reputable tuning garage that works with jdm stuff... and remember the coupe isnt in japan and the integra is about the same price and is the current standard entry level race chassis. the odds of them spending money developing performance stuff for a low power 4 door is slim, anything good for our cars is going to come from this side of the pacific.
btw if anyone is interested in ecu tuning enough to research it and spend a few bucks on it, there are tons of ems that can run our car with the proper wiring and modifications . people are falling into this rut of wanting everything to be plug and play and that is the complete opposite of the tuner ideology.

If it is then no there are no chips for the D17

different market for cars, it doesnt mean they are more technologically advance than us, its just that we americans dont have enough disposable income to enjoy little luxuries. just look at us, the biggest company in the US is walmart, you see where im getting at, we want bang for our buck. while in Japan people are willing to shell out the cash for nice things.
