not.

anyway, of course the point is that the 'other' driver doesn't know it's 'not' a civic. it still looks like a civic, but behaves very differently

Here's another aspect to the main poster's standpoint : How do you drive a five thousand horsepower car in traffic? How do you drive that same car on a road with speed limits? Just because you can't read the speed limit when you're flying around in your supercar does it mean that there is no speed limit?

On public roads with speed limits it pains me whenever I see an STi, a Cobra or a Ferrari. Those cars are like caged animals in a zoo, begging to be set free on a racetrack. And if you DO drive them over the speed limit, I'll be waiting for you to get out of the hospital so I can beat the **** out of you for killing my 3-year-old.

Yeah ok, drag racing is a passion for some and mods probably justify all that effort. However, even if your vic does the 1/4 in under 10 seconds, you will hate yourself when you are caged in everyday traffic, if that's your daily driver. You will also hate yourself when you need to get somewhere and the car just craps out on you.

Just my two cents.

Its about having fun, mods are fun, even though they can make you just as mad as they are fun, kina like women.
It does suck when people race on the roads, i usually drive fast only when i am the only car insight, on back roads.

couldn't have said it better myself... i dont mod to race. its a hobby and personalization makes it unique. knowing that you made your car the way you want it. whether it be a coilover suspension for the awesome handling, or boost for the kick of acceleration. name your poison... its all fun IMO

The only problem I have with this is the Tuarus and V6 mustang thing. First off I put any EX 5 speed agianst a stock V6 rustang and call it a drivers race lol....

Second of all I had a V8 SHO taurus a while back... That car was WAY faster than any V6 stang I ever saw. That taurus was just frean fast...

Lastly, if you buy a civic to be just fast... you choose poorly. If all you want to do is go fast in a line, go buy an SRT4 or late Z28, you'll save alot of money and headaches. Civic's and most Honda's are track cars, hence the reason cars like the S2000 have 8600 RPM redlines, they're track cars. Sure you can play with them and make them into race cars, but there are cheaper better cars out there if all you want to do is go fast in a striagh line. But it's when you turn the civic shines. Oh well, just my .02

our cars are NOT sports cars. Making a "tuner" car like a civic fast is exciting, and hard to do. its a challenge. thats why so many people do it.
on the other hand alot of people, like me, have a civic and modify it to be as good of a daily driver as possible. no mods for speed, just ICE, and other exterior stuff.

If you dont want insurance to go up you can chose to not add the upgrades to your policy. but that also means you won't have them covered if you would get in an accident or something

Holy Sh** this thread is old, anyway to hopfully put and end to it. Here is my D17 Epiphany....

I Blew up my 91 Jeep Commanche. Inline 6 *** loads of torque. Drove the engine into the ground and finaly Threw a Rod....

There in Lied the Delema, Fix the Engine Or Buy a new Car.

I Decided i wanted a Good MPG Engine. One that would last me 50 yrs if i wanted it to, And one that Was Dependible and Reliable. So Naturally I choose My 03 Honda Civic EX 5 Speed Coupe. KNOWING DAMN WELL THAT the D17 Made Poor Horse Power, But i didnt care. It was MY honda MINE, I choose it because it was dependable, Easy to maintaine, and the damn near 40+ MPG Fule Economy. I could have Purchased an SI but i choose my EX.

Regardless of how much power your EX, LX, HX, and EVEN DX make... Mostley everyone on this Forum more than likely didnt buy the car because of its power..The smart ones bought it because of the Efficancy....

Now i know how it goes...and i couldnt help myself eather, but come on....its a HONDA..you just natrually have to get I/H/E. Its like an unspoken Rule....Most people know it wont do much. But Hey IF YOU WANTED A FASTER CAR You should of bought somthing else.....

So There in Lies my point..... US smart people didnt buy the car we bought for the power. But non the less Still add on the bolt ons to squeez as much as we can out of it and just enjoy the ride. All The Wile...The stupid ones....no afence to anyone on THIS forum... bought the car thinking it has the ability to be a 10 sec. qrt mile. car. and end up SWAPING The engine for a k20 when they could of bought an RSX-S in the first place... Like My Siggy Said at one point..........IF YOU WANT A FAST CAR BUY A FAST cAR.......IF YOU WANT A DEPEDABLE cAR....BUY A HONDA

I look at it like this, some people like me like to modify things whether it be a bike, lawn mower or civic, its just sweet man, bottom line is its fun. It makes me feel like a kid again. I do not know why other people bought their civics, but if they did because they wanted to make it fast, who cares, if they re having fun!!!
Personally, I bought the car because i wanted something that was new, fun to drive, with good looks, and quality for my dollar. I could have gotten an srt4, but the neon is crap compared to a civic IMO, and i thought they looked bad, why i did not get si. I think in my mind it came down to looks for 16 grand, and the civic won, and its prob the best investment as wel compared to chevy or dodge or even toyota. Any car can be a pretty fast car, thats whats so cool about turbos, or engine swaps, and modifications in general, so i knew that my civic could be fast one day. Also there are no turboed or swapped 7thgens where i live, or any where in general and thought it would be pretty unique if i ever made my civic fast.

This topic has really opened my eyes. I have thought about a putting a turbo on my vic, but i'm a changed man. All I want to do is have it look, sound, and handle good and I'll be ready to go. I bought it for the MPG and if I turbo it or something that defeats the whole purpose, all show no go for me. a friend of mine took me on a hell ride in his 2000 SI turbo, That thing was the fastest car I was ever in year, there is at least $10,000 put into it. But once I heard that he got his *** kicked by a stock EVO, I was like holy sh*t, might as well just buy one of them. So the bottom line is I am going for show and economy, if I want a fast car I will buy something for $30,000 +

i would like to add something to my previous post. Instead of putting $2,000 + into a turbo kit, I would rather buy a set of rims/tires and a sweet body kit. I think the last engine upgrade will be Headers, and obviously not for performance, just for sound.

Its all relative theres always a faster car, i will prob buy a turbo cause i think they are sweet and i do not plan on buying a new car until out of college.
^Thats another reason why modding cars is so sweet cause everybody has a different opinion on what their cars should look like and thats what they put effort into doing, so you get alot of different looking cars.

Well no...what do you call it then? an acura? How bout a jeep w/chevy 350? a chevy wrangler right? Why wouldn't you still call it a civic? I'd much rather have a turboed k20 in my vic bc it'd be a lot more unique than buying a used cobra imo.

After dumping $1,500 in bolt-ons (intake, header, exhaust, cam gears, intake manifold, spark plugs, ECU,) you're putting 140hp to the wheels and probably still running 15's. Congratulations, you can now beat a Taurus.

Swaps:

You're tired of your low gain, economy D17a2, so you drop $8,000 and get yourself a K20a2, a 6-speed transaxle, and all the goodies for a swap. Not quite the best financial decision you made, but you are now running 14's. Congratulations, you can now beat a V6 Mustang.

Forced Induction:

Or you turbocharge your D17. Full SF kit, 180hp to the wheels, $4,000 later and you're running 14's. Probably the most cash effecient way of making your Civic move. Congratulations, you can now beat an RSX Type-S.

Next you upgrade your internals (pistons, valve springs, injectors, etc), up the pressure to 15psi, $1,000 later you're running 13's. Congratulations, you can now beat a Camaro Z28.

Nitrous:

Assuming you still have your SF kit, $500 later, you spray and run low 13's. Congratulations, you can now beat a 911 Carrera.

Swap+Turbo:

Ah yes, the ol' Turbo'd K20in an econobox. Either you have an excellent job and for some reason you like Civics rather than BMWs or your parents are filthy rich and give you anything you want. About $12,000 later you own a Civic that runs, quite possibly, 12's. Congratulations, you can now beat a Corvette.

Why do we subject ourselves to such pain, sweat, time fending off import haters, while our wallets continue to get thinner just to build a car that runs with production sports cars? No, there moght not be any logic to it all, but we do it anyways. Why? What is the attraction to turning a cheap car into a fast cheap car? The world may never know.

Then I go and buy a used LS1 Z28 for 7K dollars, add slicks, bolt ons and a cam for 1200 bucks and will be running 11s for under 10K.

A) your car doesnt have multiple headerS
B) you wont notice too much of a differece in sound.

because they just paid 300+ dollars and their light weight wallet effects their brain.

only way to tell an audable difference is if thats the ONLY mod out of I/H/E that you perform.

so yea, try again.
