is the 7th gen civic better than the 6th?
is the 7th gen civic better than the 6th?
I love my car (04 VP), but I see 6th gens around here all of the time and I was thinking that my next car may be a clean 6th gen. They seem to have much better handling potential, get equal mileage, and look about 100 times better to me w/ a drop and some 15s. What do you think? also, is the 7th gen much safer?

Looks are subjective, but I prefer the more "modern" look of the 7th gens compared to the 6th gens. In terms of handling, performance, build quality, etc. I'd say both cars are pretty much equal (in spite of what some people might say about the mac strut front suspension on the 7th gens)

I personally like the way the 7th gen looks better than the 6th. But The 6th gen is alot easier and cheaper to swap. So for that reason get the 6th gen and swap a b18.
I like 6th gens better cause at this point in time, its cheaper to mod, since its been on the market for a while. 7th gens can get kinda pricey compared to 6th gens. If you plan on getting a 6th gen now, I'd say do it, but in a few years, the 7th gens gonna be cheap to mod as well.

I prefer the 7th gen's styling way over the 6th gen's, but then again the 6th gen has much more aftermarket support having been out for quite some time now.
I was just asking b/c I drive my friend's 01 LS teg the other day and I REALLY liked it. Even though it only had a little more pull than my car, I like the suspension and the low slung hood better. Our cars look so wedgy. I just like how the old Hondas and Accords had a sexy beltline (thanks struts
). Anyway, I wont swap it, I dont care about power, just handling and economy (thats why im driving a civic now).

7th gen chassis is more rigid. Its got the EM2 chassis. I find both coupes good looking. In terms of handling potential 7thgens have double wishbone multi-link rear. In terms of the front mac set-up there is probably ways to tune so you can predict the toe. Put a strut tower brace.

heres the crash test results if you're curious, the 7th gen is a bit safer, and even more so if you get the side airbags...
6th gen coupe
7th gen coupe

the EM2 chassis is stronger by a good margin if i remember correctly... stronger chassis = less chassis flex = better or at least more predicatble handling.
the aftermarket for the 7th gen isn't quite as good yet, but we'll stay hopeful.

I personally am fond of the 04 models more than previous 7 gens.... Stock, they look decent, where 01-03 look like my grandma might drive them. But that's just me. I'm totally happy with my little LX sedan.

I find the 01-03 more agressinve and the 04 more friendly looking. I'm not to crazy about the rear circles on the lights

I actually love the look of a 99 EX lights. Drop is sexier looking and parts are cheaper and there's more of a market out for them. Handling is just about the same but go with what you want. Even though everyone has a 6th gen doesn't mean you can't have one too and make it look better than everyone else's.
I love 6th gen's ... especially the Si's.
imo, the suspension is much better on the 6thgen's than on 7th. the hood is much bigger on the 6th, so a CF hood would be more effective ... and has a much bigger engine bay. only problem is that the wheel well size is a bit smaller ... bigger tires wouldn't fit?

6thgen si or 7th gen ex were my options I opted for the brand new ex which was costing me less in the long run(4 year financing form Honda) than the si with reasonable mileage 47 000 mind you. would I really feel the extra 30 horses on a car three years older with all the clicks, maybe. But brand new is still brand new, ex coupe comes with rims, sunroof, 6 speaker sound, EM2 chassis, rear-fron anti-roll bars................, etc you get the picture. the 6th gen SI has some great available mods and all, but recently I've noticed some good mods for our cars as well. The difference is probably not as acray as we think it to be in daily driving, even racing mind you. Lets say you have modifed suspension on both the si and the 7th gen ex on a track it will be difficult to predict the winner.

I like the look of the 7th gen. It combines all the looks of previous models and the headlights look the best with the 01-03 models. They totally abandonned the look for 04 and up of the headlights, which gives it a softer, look, but they also added bodykits, which make it look aggressive.
6th gens are awesome though because there was coupe version of the Si, so you never knew what it was if it were modified just right.
