Yeah it's getting crazy. They used to be required to make themselves visible, even if it means the cars slow down.

there is a park on a main road over here with the speed limit of 40 and the motorcycle cops drive on the path ways of the park behind bushes and pull people over. they also hide behind a huge cement sign in front of the firehouse...

this one cop was on a motorcycle on a side walk in my neighborhood at 9:00pm on a friday night. he nailed me, and just about everyone else. that should be illegal man. he tried to get me for going 35 in a 25 (which wasnt true) then he just ended up ticketing my blue lights.

I've noticed early in the morning when people are going to work the cops hide in peoples driveways. They also hide on the side of storage building so most of the time when you drive by you don't even know they are there.

Last week i was driving around having fun then i pulled into a parking lot to talk to some guys when this old black suburban pulls up with a flashing red light. The guy driving flashes a badge and asks me if i think i am Mario Andretti. I said no and he said well you were trying to drive like him blah blah blah and he told me not to do it again and that im lucky he doesnt give me a ticket. WTF is up with that?

as far as i know (at least in FL) this is totaly illegal. the car has to be visible when conducting speed traps. one of my teachers at school got pulled by this guy hiding behind an overpass and took it to court and they threw it out in 5 minuts.
he said its some form of entrapment. my moms officer friend confirmed this....

but this was like 2 years ago... mabie the $*(T^!@#*(^@$ stupid unconstitutional POS patriot act did change it. worst thing to ever come out of this government.

That's what I thought. And what's up with cop cars in disguise with no markings and hidden lights like camaros and stuff? You could be driving along, and a seemingly normal car could pull you over. How safe/legal is that?

It is actually not illegal in florida.

I am glad police are doing this more. Now how is it entrapment if the cop is hiding and clocking you without your knowledge. You are speeding, enough said.

The undercover cop cars do have lights but are hidden in the headlight/taillights. There sirens are placed in the grills. A police officer can pull you over in any car. It does not have to be a marked car. If they want they can take out a modified corvette with hidden lights and sirens.

Okay, but what would keep anyone else from throwing on some strobes and red/blue lights to pull a girl over and rape her? I sure wouldn't be stopping for an unmarked car until I get to a place with alot of people and cars around.

Then I've heard of regular cars that would try to race you. Then if you do, there are cops waiting for you. This is definately entrapment. If the undercover cop didn't rev, you wouldn't have normally raced.

I've seen completely unmarked crown vics and taurus around here, usually black. Sometimes the spotlight gives em away tho, but only if you're really looking.

coming from a cops pt of view.. (i work there, and all my friends are cops) how do you expect cops too catch people doing illegal stuff if they sit in plain view.. "Hey come here and speed so we can catch you" ... thats dumb. if the world was a perfect place, no one would speed, do drugs, or anything illegal, and we wouldnt have to be in this line of work..

and also, this is in the wrong forum.. plz move to the legal section

btw: what i hate about people is that when we are around, you people hate us cuz we caught you... but if suttin happens to you, you want us there.. if we arnt there in like 2secs.. your mad at us again...

bah to u! at least in Dallas; cops can't chase you for minor traffic violations. However, street racing is like a DWI here and in that case, ur fvcked. Hard.

11.15pm. time to go to the races.

i heard on the news a while back (this was when i was like 14 or something) that if an unmarked police car tries to pull you over, and youre not sure if its a real cop or not, then you should keep driving. then if the marked police cars start showing up, you should pull over.
does this still apply? or would this be like evading the police or something?

blah to me? wait until you need help, when sum dumb fu<k hits your car or suttin.. Streetracing is reckless driving.. it puts people in danger of getting hurt.. I wouldnt want some kid with a pepboys car racing down the road with its parts falling off..or anycar of that matter.. streetracing has the same amount of possiblity to hurt/kill someone as a DUI

Gearbox hit the nail right one the head, I remeber this was a topic of big debate in Texas BECAUSE people would do just like he said. They would goto Spencers gifts and pick up some strobes. In somecases they would pull someone over in the middle of nowhere and steal theyre car at gun point. Other cases involved girls being dragged into fields and raped. I dont recall any deaths because of this

Personally I absolutely WILL NOT pull over for an unmarked car, if they want to they can radio for a marked car and then I will pull over.

Yeah cops won't start running you off the road right away. They usually call for backup first and chase you. Even if they pull up next to you wearing uniform, it's still hard to say. It's very unlikely that an imposter will have more than one decoy car. And like I said, all you need is an alarm, some strobes, and maybe red/blue lights to pull people over. Also if you're not sure about it being a real cop, put your hazards on or flash the brake lights to give em a signal that you're not gonna be stopping for a while (until you find a safe place).

Sorry but those figures are WAY!! off.

In 2001 street racing was the cause of 135 deaths this is according to the NHTSA

In 2000 drunk driving was the cause of 2.16 million crashes, 513,00 were injured and 16,792 people were killed.

Yea no way I'm pulling over for an unmarked. If one tries to pull me over, I'll call the non-emergency and ask em.

Also I used to street race damn near every weekend. I can attest that 100% of the near misses we've had were because the other person simply did not pay attention.

There was a race I recall against myself and a prelude. We had just started the race and just look off from the light. Suddenly a person comes up to the intersection on our right side, and coasts through cutting us both off.

Another race I was in, a lady in a Geo Metro cut me off while I was at 80 (speed limit was 70), I nearly rear ended her because she refused to accerlate.

Another race was on a back road between me and an Intgera, we approached an intersection that we have the right of way at (everyone else has to stop) and about 50 feet before we got there a truck ran the stop sign.

Im not saying that street racing is safe, because we all know thats not true. There are some idiots out there that will barrel into oncomming traffic. Theres no excuse for that, but there is also excuse for the above violations I mentioned

Very true. At least if you're racing, you're paying alot more attention to the road and conditions. I seriously think some people are half asleep when driving to do the things I've seen. It's all hype. The news reports street racing more that dui, so everyone thinks street racing is the problem. Don't get me wrong, there are alot of stupid ricers out there also trying to show off and nearly wrecking their car.

im gonna agree against street racing. its no good. neither is DUI.

i agree that police cars should be marked.

i also agree that cops shouldnt have to be visible, BUT should NOT be able to break the law just to catch someone else breaking the law. thats complete bullshit.

who the F*CK gives the right to cops to break the law?
