Brand New Civics
Hi all,
I have a brand new civic 2004 sedan Gli... almost reaching 5000km now..
I was told to go on the freeway when it reaches the 5000km mark and cain the car as it is good for the engine in the future..suppose to smooth the engine out so it last longer in the future??
Can anyone give me any expert tips about this?
Thanks in advance.

i really do think that the manufacture breaks in the engines already for certain hours to make sure the engine works properly. Im pretty sure that they had ppl run the engines in pretty well (drive hard) and blow the motor before...so breaking it in before they go to the dealers is one of the sure ways that they take to ensure a properly working engine.
5K KM is good enough to breake in the engine ur good to go
yes no matter what car it is it needs at least 1000 miles or 1700 km no only for the engine internals to break in but for the clutch/auto tranny brakes and everything else
in fact a brand new engine doesnt reaches its full potential HP until it reaches certain mileage. a honda engine is broken in fully after almost 3k miles even though u can start driving it hard after 1500 miles

All engines are pre-breaked in by manufacturers before installing it in the car.
However, if you just wanna get the full performance of your car and for it to last longer, you should not drive past 80KPH (sorry dont know how to convert it to miles) on your first 5,000 km.

umm, you are all wrong.
there is a guide online or somewhere at honda tech which says sumthing completely opposite of what you say.

hmmm...yes they test the engine but i don't think they don't break it in...they won't be able to test the millions of engines that they make for the millions of cars that they sell...they make sure it works and in they use a thicker oil in the beginning to get rid of chunks of small/big metals and shavings that are in the engine...hence that is the breaking in period of the car
