I'm pretty happy with my 7thgen, my only grip would be probably be the cloth seats. I drive to LA a lot and when your sittin on cloth seats for 6hrs, its a killer on your back and butt. There was a rumor that there goin to offer leather as a option for the 06 si. 200hp and leather interior is really tempting to trade in my car and get a 06 si. Yes i'll take a hit, but it's still cheaper then redoing your car in leather and savin for a k20 swap. Why go through that hassle when you can have it all stock for cheaper price.
well, normally, I would say look at the rolla, but the XRS has a pile of poop for an engine in terms of longevity. A guy I know has had one for 3300miles, and its already having a problem with the timing chain/valvetrain. And those engines are notorious for having problems with the valve spring retainers.
Toyota whouls really stop outsourcing engines from Yamaha...
Im about to look at sedans that are more powerfull than my civic, and the SE-R has struck me as a very good contender.

kasimmm, the present chasis was designed by Mazda, as was the engine. The entire car, with the bare exception of the actual engine block itself (that is to say the hunk of metal with the 4 big holes in it...) was designed -independantly- by Mazda.
I really can't state enough that you need to search for posts about this, because the issue of Ford ownership in Mazda has been flogged to death.

First of all, I'm gonna ask you something. Did you know that the Mazda 3 shares the same platform as Ford Focus? Well, I'm sure you already knew that, but do you know what that means? A platform is the base to which a vehicle is designed. The cars that share the same platforms share the same suspension and drive train components. They're even built in the same plants and Fords (Auto Alliance in southern Michigan and New Zealand). My friend works in a factory that manufactures seats for Fords, and guess who else they supply to... Mazda. I've noticed that people are reluctant to admit that Ford has a huge stake in Mazda and has a great deal to do with how Mazda's are built. I'm not saying that Mazda 3s not a good car, infact I like it, my cousin has one, its just that I wouldn't buy one because he has had several problems with his car including his fuel pump and other things as well.
Mazda Will Buy More Engines From Ford

update on the situation;
after calling yesterday to check if they could get the payment price lower, the floor manager told me he would check with the finance manager to see what he could work out. no call.
i call today and the floor manager was surprised the finance guy didn't call me back. so i call the finanace guy at around 4:00 pm and he says; "oh we just sold it 10 minutes ago." and he told me he sold it at the same price i was looking at. so i'm pretty mad about that. i told him thanks for not getting back to me and i hung up on him. guess it wasn't meant to be.
p.s. - don't go to tustin mitsubishi to buy cars! they suck.
