That lineup is like the dream team.
Has Honda ever balistically increased HP before in North America? Maybe we will have access the some of the european engines tuned for our our fuel. Anyhow a 200hp honda should have a nice price tag. Ever seen how much a civic type R costs in the UK 16,250 British pounds wich is practically 29,700 USD. Whose gonna pay that much for a civic?

Not gonna happen. Doing that would rob Honda of sales from its RSX. Honda's marketing of the civic has always been fuel economy and reliability, not boy-racer-sporty coupe. That title is taken by the RSX.

It would be cool if Honda let all these racey type cars come out, but I think they wouldn't make any money on them. I think they should still come out with some racier models like they do in Europe, otherwise they risk loosing the brand loyalty from hardcore enthusiasts like us. Though we aren't many we are still an important group of people. We are providing with indispensable priceless marketing (its free!!!).

I really doubt they will bump up the civic with that much HP. Maybe the Si, but even that is unlikely. The regular civics are meant for economy buyers. That's why the car sells so well. Since it is the next gen, maybe it will have a 1.8L engine and some other extras. They already have faster cars like the Si and rsx. They won't suddenly bump a civic to 200hp. I doubt anyone would even buy that after the price goes way up.
like the others said, honda will probably boost the hp a little, but not by much. The civic will also become a slightly more premium car, since honda is planning to introduce the Fit/Jazz to the US next fall as their new small car. The Fit will definiately push the bar up for the civic.
I was told at the dealership where i got my car by the sales manager that it looked like they were dropping a k20 (160HP) in the coupe and getting rid of the Si (Canadian SiR) shape cuz its sales werent too great.
none of that was final but it was in the talks. im gonna be meeting the sales manager again next week so i plan to find out some more info. havent gotten any info recently so hopefully he has some news for me on the 2006.

i doubt honda would do drastic power increases because its supposed to be a fuel economic and just a plain ol' econo box...they'll most likely to some changes but nothing too drastic in terms of powerplants and power

there were some rumors on temple vtec last summer about the 2006's having 140hp and only the si possibly having 200hp. This seems to make more sense to me. All they gotta do is turn the d17 into a 1.8 liter engine and get the extra hp, also keep the good mileage. 200hp seems a little high consider the type S only has 210 or something. i'd imagine they would put in a detuned k20a2 and make it 185 on par with a celica. When they got rid of the prelude they left a big hole for those people who want more power then a economy car but dont want to pay for the luxury elements of an Acura.
I think there tryin to make the civic more of a premium economy car with the honda jazz and fit more toward the lower end economy car competiting against the scions and kia's. Maybe trying to make the Si appeal more toward the prelude crowd. i doubt they want to be like toyota and just spin off another brand name. No matter how ugly we think those scions are with the exception of the TC, there no doubts that Scion has been a success for toyota. Honda will need to restructure there line up to compete against the scions and kia's.
If they offer 200hp and leather interior for the 06 civic then i'm gonna trade in my 04 and get the o6. No point in wasting money saving for a 5-8k engine swap and spending 500-1600 for leather seats when you can have it all stock. It would be nice but in the end its all rumor until honda releases something. Right now, i dont think there line-up is very competive if you take way the reliability and quality of the honda name and just look at what they offer, its a lot less for a lot more then there competitors.

Since the Fit is comin out the DX-HX will be a eco car now like how the EX is now and the EX and on will be a eco/sports car to fill in the prelude .. the Fit is gonna get the more eco so the civic can still be eco yet more of a sports car EX and up but DX-HX will be eco cars
