Shoud I go ahead & get an SI
Thing is, this dealership near where I live {Honda Cars of McKinney} is looking to get rid of its Si's. The town isn't to big on imports so Si's don't sell at all there. Anyways, they are having a special on Brand New Civic Si's for $3000 off msrp of 19,560. So it will come out to 16,560 which is less than an EX
trouble is
1) i dunno how to drive a stick
2) i just bought a 2003 lx sedan a month ago for 10.5 with 0% interest and i have 7.1k left to pay off. The 03 was wrecked so i got it with a reconditioned title.
3) I'm thinking a swap or turbo may be cheaper and faster!
4) I do not wanna pay full coverage for insurance.
so whats y'all advice

yeh its easy to learn how to drive a stick. i don't have alot of experience with manual as well but i know how to drive it. its just there's no stick tranny around to drive in my house, everything is automatic. just in case, i do know how to drive it.
I would go ahead and get the Si. I have an 03' EX Coupe (auto) but I would definately get an Si if I had the choice. I have a manual 350z at my house which I learned on - took a couple of days to get it down - it takes a while to master and I would say I sitll haven't "mastered" it, partly because I can only drive about once a week and for only a short time at that.
Swap or turbo may be faster but it comes down to whether you want to put all that work in and all that money for something that isn't brand new and may not yield desired results. I'm not saying you should't swap or turbo but getting the Si will be covered under warranty and any problems you have can be resolved through Honda for free. Once you start swapping and stuff a large portion of your warranty will be void and you will be on your own.
If it were me I would get the Si, especially since it's cheaper than the EX. The interior in the Si is very nice and there aren't as many hard plastics.
I don't know how much cheaper a turbo or swap would be but I think it's worth it to get the Si. A turbo or swap might create problems and it may end up costing more than you think.
Just my two cents - good luck!

FYI a good turbo or swap setup will cost around 5k. I think you would be better off getting the Si.
As for the guy that asked if your gonna use it for what its meant for, it's meant for a daily commute to work.

Thanks all
yeah, it being a stick is my main problem. I can afford it even with full insurance but id rather take the difference from liability and use it to pay off the car faster. Financing might be a problem since im 18 but nothing my mom can't fix.
She says its my choice but i really don't want to mess up the SI. its around what i make in a year.
edit- maybe ill get my mom to try teach how to drive it on the way back.

Usually the dealer will give you a quick lesson...its not hard, took me a couple days to get the hang of it with my first car. After that its a couple months to master it. (well for most people...I have friends that have been driving a stick for years and still suck at it.
)
) Just get it. It doesn't take a racecar driver to drive stick.
A lot of people here have bought a manual transmission without not knowing how to drive one (myself included). Don't worry about the clutch. If it makes you feel better, I've had at least 4 people learn how to drive stick on my car including me. I've got 65,000 miles on her and the clutch is fine. You really have to be quite misinformed or uneducated to destroy a new clutch.
Unlike everyone else, I'll say that you won't master it in a few days but you WILL be able to get the hang of it and enjoy it in under an hour. You've mastered driving stick once you can launch 1st gear properly on a steep hill facing up - when the car rolls back!
You can use your ebrake but that just keeps you from doing it the right way.

it's not that hard. you can practice while you're sitting down in front of your computer.....raise your left foot and push down the right one slowly at the same time.

ya man it isnt that difficult to learn. I never had anyone around me that had a stick so i never learned well...until today my wife and i and our friend was bored after the show today so we went to a huge parking lot and learned how to drive in his SI. My wife didnt pick it up to quick but she just got her license a week ago. But it took me the 2nd try to get it going. I can safetly safe if i had a manual I could drive it no problem right now.
oh well, tomorrow i'll go by the dealership and check it out. The reason i'm even thinking about this is when i stomp on the gas on my 03 lx sedan. it barely managed to move compared to my 91 accord & the car is like 400lbs lighter.

I kinda felt the same way when i drove my 04 lx the first time. I had a 90 accord. But that was 4 years ago then there was a POS chevy venture in the middle. Thats what I get for letting the wifey pick the car.
If you like the Si, consider it. I don't regret getting my car BECAUSE it is manual. I think if I got an auto Civic, I would be missing out on a lot. Once you get driving manual down, you can enjoy driving faster cars like Integra Type Rs or Corvette Z06s or Lancer EVOs... cars that don't come in automatic.
