Sweet.. have you seen any pics yet?

Anyways, I'm in the middle of selling my car because there are two different cars I'm interested in buying. One being a 1994 Honda Prelude SI, and the other a 2000 Honda Civic SI. The Prelude is $2000 and the Civic is $4500. Both have almost 100,000 miles on the body, trans, etc. Once I sell my car, I'll have about $13,000 to play around with for engine internals, turbo, and whatever else. I guess the bottom line is I'm looking for
stock hp/torque specs, what's the difference between the 4WSI and the SI, I know it's a 2.3 4 cyl, but is that an H22 or an H23? Does is have better potential than the Civic SI?
Feel free to list both pros and cons on both vehicles
EDIT: I accidently typed 1996 instead of 1994

i think u should go for the si but thats just me.. i like how they look plus u said u got some extra cash to spend.. so ull drop a b16 or a b18 or h22 in it.. and ull be a happy man.. but as for the prelude it comes with 195 stock i believe on the 94... and its ok but its heavier than the si... well anyways goodluck with the buy

I said get the Si. $4500 for a 2000 Si, that is a great deal. Power between both of them is about the same. Conside lube is heavyer then Si. Also the looks on the Si is better!!!

The only bad thing about ludes is the following, cylinder walls are weak and don't like much load, not sure about the older h22 but the newer ones have weak 5th gear synchros and they guzzle oil. Hondas says on average 1,5l of oil every couple 5,000k

OK, the 4 wheel steering Si and the Si.... now the Si, i'm assuming non VTEC puts up 160HP, dont know torque. It's an H23A I believe. 4 wheel steering was eventually gone in favor of the DOHC VTEC H22. A con of the Prelude though is insurance. But the Civic is stolen more often. A pro, although the Prelude is heavy, it still had potential and was the best handling front wheel drive car at the time.

EDit: oh yeah, a con of the Prelude is that it has less parts and they tend to more pricey... but you can always swap in an H22 then turbo charge it. i'm not a fan of H22's in Civic's...... whats your goal for the car of choice?

^^ holy ****! .. prelude's back!!!! ... let's hope for the k24 in these ****'s

hm, h23 or b16? ... get the 2000 si ... much MUCH bigger aftermarket and with a bit of work, you can get these babies to run an astronomical 10,000 rpms! rods, valves, valve springs, cams ... ohhh yeah. or, you could always drop a b18c in there and that would be a sickass car. Or even drop an h22 in the civic si haha ... now you have the best of both worlds

remember however, the h22 motor is heavier than the b16 in the si coupe. that will throw off the F/R wieght distribution and over-all balance of the car. a heavy motor in the civic lightweight body is a good idea, if ya like dragging. track racing tho, its kinda iffy on the whole understeer thing.

BUT!

if ya just want it for fast fun around town, just get a old civic (non si, save a few bucks) and drop the h22 in THAT. thats IF you want to swap. if not, get the prelude!!!!

okay, the H23a1 has some advantages but poses many rebuilding..
the motor revs at 6800ish like ours do..but thats what all H-series motors do except the a7 (accord Euro Type-R) i believe revs at 7200, another thing is the H23 motor tends to have weak gaskets...so take a look into that if you get it, so internals may be a must.

although the H23 does have much potential boosted or if you could, do the H23 Vtec (23 block with 22 head), problem is when revving higher under certain racing conditions the H23 rods cant handle it and begin to crack so your stuck at 7000's rev past 8 bye bye

4ws its not 4wd or AWD for some people thinking that, all it is...all 4 wheels are able to turn out 10 degrees..or 15 degrees. they say its better for driving around corners and similar areas, but it is a bit dangerous in the rain, since the rear wheels can come out also you can get caught in water spots

IMO id go with the Civic Si better potential overall in the B-series motors

but if you insist on going with the Lude pm and i can give you my setup

I would go with the Prelude. At least if you are going boost. The Si is an awesome car but I think the potential of the H23 is a lot higher because of the displacement and the lower compression. Although a few things might be needed to get it high boost. Also the prelude will "feel" faster than the Si because of the much higher torque. If you just want a car to drive around I think the Civic will be better because of the gas milage. But if you want to mod your car hardcore then the prelude will be better.

getting that motor vs. a b16 is not that big of a deal. h22 only weighs ~100 pounds more which is like having another person in your car. cf hood wouldn't hurt either. b16's are slow anyway ... not much quicker than a d17

160hp vs 127hp? hmmm.... although the d17 has more torque, there is much more performance potential in a DOHC VTEC setup than an SOHC VTEC setup. even though its only 1.6L, its oriented towards performance, not like the D17 which is focussed on economy/fuel efficiency. plus, the extra revs are always nice

I know what the b16's and d17's are more geared towards. I was comparing the two in speed ... the only real thing that's different about the b16's is that they have loud vtec ... it's still pretty slow n/a... have you driven one before? i/h/e d17a2 is probably about as quick as a stock b16 Si.

I know there's more potential in the b16's ... way more. Nowhere in my post did I say to stick with the d17 over the b16, but as far as a 'performance' motor, b16's are far, far from that ... unless you turbo a b16, it's gonna be slow ... fun, but slow.
