Are stiff pedals normal for 2002 Civics?

I just bought a 2002 Civic EX (auto). Great little car. The only thing that's slightly odd is that both the brake and gas pedals are noticably stiff. Is that just how Civics are? I haven't driven any other new Civics to compare. They don't stick - they're just stiff. Just thought I'd see if this was normal or if I needed to lube something...

I think its normal. If you drive a Toyota, it should be softer though.

Yeah, thats the big difference I've noticed compared to my previous cars. I've driven a 2002 Si and its also stiff, especially the gas pedal.

Must be it - nearly every car I've ever driven has been a Toyota. I'd bet that the stiff pedals give me better gas mileage, though .
