Hey Wally it's real easy - the DIY is perfect, and actually you're quite lucky that you have a sedan, so you're not popping clips to remove the handles - just screws. If you read up on it the whole process takes about an afternoon. I started at around 11 that day and finished around 5 or 6, with weed breaks, entertaining nox_slang, azn_outlaw, and mikeweb, and watching several video awards shows on the tube.
If you haven't already this is the perfect time to paint the 1.7 door trim pieces as they'll be easy to put back on while the panels are off the car. Another plus is you'll be able to reuse the round clips that hold the door trim pieces on - something I couldn't do because the first time I painted the door trim I simply pulled them off the doors, breaking clips as I went.

Oh, so with this method, you can actually PROPERLY remove the faux wood trim pieces? Or is it because the cloth is removed and doesn't hinder you from just painting away?
As I recall, they're held on by rivets. But they don't seem easy to pop back in place by hand. But this really does look like a neat DIY

What I'm saying is that since the door panels are OFF the car, you can properly RE-ATTACH the trim pieces, without resorting to automotive goop like I originally did. They're not held on by rivets, they're held on by those toothed rings (I forget what they're called on Mcmaster.com), so instead of ripping them out from the door like I did, you can actually pull off and reuse those ring thingies.

Use whatever you want. Vinyl works well - as does any material that's not too porous. I had trouble with mine because it let a little bit of the adhesive soak through - I might redo a door.
