Wrecked SRT-4 on Route 514 NJ
location is the title...blue srt-4, looks bone stock, saw it just being towed in to the body shop and put back with the other cars labeled "totaled"
damage was to passenger side...front 1/4 panel dented in about 9"...passenger door and roof smashed to bits
hood largely intact, as far as I could tell from about 10 feet away the motor should have been fine based on looking in my engine bay...drivers side also good...3 good wheels I bet a ton of suspension good...trunk good too...driver side undamaged
I bet clipped a telephone poll or otherwise, would explain the damage up high...didn't roll it, not enough damage to roof...concentrated on passenger side
here's the kicker...the car is labeled totaled with a big sign on it with their other cars...I offer the guy 2k for it straight up without even taking a further look at the damn thing and he says "sorry, it's totaled...I can't sell it"
I even offered to have it towed, my family owns a ****ing garage...what the hell is up with that?
if he didn't like the price, he should have tried to bargain with me...if it truly was totaled, then why the hell wouldn't you accept two large for it? If someone came and offered us that for any of our totaled cars, we'd offer to tow ourselves
strange world...
anyway, just a little info if anyone wants to try to talk some sense into this guy...I'd estimate about 4-6 grand for us to rebuild the car (new frame
), but that is considering it would be an in-house project and we don't charge labor for our own...for an outsider, 4-6 grand + labor...about 10 grand I'd say
but hey, it'd be worth it, car couldn't have had many miles on it...

The resaon HE couldn't sell it is because he doesn't own it. When a car gets totaled the insurance company pays the owner and takes possesion of the car. The owner can buy the car from the insurance company or the insurance company will sell the car to a junk yard.

I asked this question. the guy doubles as bodyshop/junkyard and apparently the insurance company had deemed the car a total loss and given it to him for the value of his towing it off the road...very common but I would definetely not say it was a total loss
thanks for the try though

doh, in scrap metal that thing is worth like 1000, not to mention all the good parts still left on it, so if it gets sold to a pick and pull place, they prolly could make way more than 2000 on it.

the story gets better...I go past the place to go to school everyday, and earlier today I saw it in the car smasher
WHAT THE ****?
All those good parts...wasted...noooooooo
that beautiful 2.4L motor
what an ******* that guy is...what could he possibly be thinking?
(upon further looks of the car...before smashing...I think it was probably T-boned then pushed into something...ouch)
